trailer lights used as night lights

Does anyone know how to wire your trailer so the parking / tail lights stay on while at camp site / use them as night lights

Looking at the plug as it hooks to your tow vehicle (the locking tab at the top), you need to jump between the prongs at 11 and 1 o'clock. I use a fused jumper wire.....just in case.

You can buy an inline fuse (10 amp is lots ) and put some flat connectors on the ends. I met a fellow camper who was using a 30 amp fuse for this purpose

Just take a 7.5 amp automotive fuse and put it in the 11 and 1 O clock slots

Yeah, I forgot about the flat (female) connectors on the end. I had to mash the connectors a little, but they work great instead of just bare wires.

I would have to ask my DH to comment in detail if you wish. He actually wired and mounted a switch on our old camper and the new one. If you want details just let me know.

I just had mine on last night at Secluded Acres near Lake Wallenpaupack, PA (nice CG, BTW.) I use a 10 amp automotive blade-type fuse, take two pliers and bend the body of the fuse just slightly to make it into a bit of a curved shape, and it wedges into the 11 and 1-o'clock plugs nicely. A flasher relay works too, but you'll annoy your neighbors!

Bending the fuse tab is a great idea, very simple (other than keeping track of that really small fuse!).

The flasher is something everyone should have in their trailer for safety. A breakdown on the side of the road with the tow vehicle removed can be left with the trailer lights flashing...

happy camping,

its a good idea to wire them up with 2 switches--- one so they are on all time and 1 hooked up with a flasher in line so that the flashing lites could be used for roadside emergency and if in campground and you call 911-tell 911 tohave emergency people to go to the camper with the lites blinking.
