Tri-Glide Pin Box Cover

So who wouldn't want a cardboard cover for their pin box. This is just a project in the making. I have seen a cover for just about everything on an RV, except the pin box. Specifically the trail air tri-glide. I had some cardboard laying around and decided to make a template for a vinyl cover. My mom is one of those who made all of our clothes growing up, has made bed covers for my trucks, and all sorts of other things. If it deals with sewing, she can make it. So, she's picking up the vinyl this week, and making a cover for the tri-glide based off of the cardboard template. It'll have some grommets underneath to secure it, or maybe some sort of velcro set up.

If anybody knows of a company that makes vinyl pin box covers, post away as I've never found one. If not, guess I ought to patent it or something.

Is this for just when you're parked or for use all of the time?

Just for when it's parked. We had lived in our Mobile Scout for about 8 months in 2008, and the sun and elements took a toll on the MorRyde pin box. Fading, rusting etc. I ended up repainting that one. So, taking preventative measures on this one. Too expensive of a pin box to let it rust and corrode.

Looks good for that purpose! I'd definitely see about making them and would bet others would be interested in the same.

We'll see how it turns out. I'll post pictures of the final product. Not sure when it'll be done. Hopefully in the next few weeks. As with most of my projects, I'll get it done, look at it for a while, and think dang, I should've done this or that different. Live, learn and improve I guess.

Looks like a good project for a 3D printer.

Thought about taking everything and putting it in a CAD drawing, but sometimes I like to keep it old school and simple. I do most of my metal work templates with poster board and such.

I don't know much about 3D printing. Help me out a little on that one. Minor CAD stuff is my limit, everything else in regards to technology, I rely on my little nephews and nieces. I hate asking a 10 year old for help, but that's the age we live in now.

I really don't know anything about 3D printing myself but it looks amazing.

Here's a wiki link:

Lots of bux for a good 3D printer,it's of bux for print "media" ( the plastic goop it spits out, and lots of time to do it 3-4 times because the other attempts were off by a bit or you forgot about the 3D stuff. It looks good 2D but the extra D just adds a bit more complexity. Pretty cool tech though.

My low tech solution. Would like to buy a molded cover like UltaFab sells except for trail air pin.

John, are you going to use a strap and buckle at the back to keep it on?

Our new crusader came with a plastic molded aerodynamic one. Wraps around top and both sides. The underside is open where the kingpin is. It will definitely protect the pin box from the elements and sun.

We have a pin box shroud, too- but have a regular king pin, not a TrailAir. You?

Reg pin. Nothing fancy! I have no complaints with it but also have nothing else to compare to either.

That's the thing, though - I've never seen a cover/shroud for the TrailAir pin boxes.

And- agreed, I've only had this one camper with a fixed pin. Does well enough. Though, I do lust after a trail air!

On this one, the bottom will just have grommets to secure it. I'm sure if I did another, I might would do buckles. Some like the plastic shrouds, I just don't care for them. Don't like the looks of them. I have seen the plastic shrouds trimmed out for a Trail-Air, but then it defeats the purpose. I guess I'm in the small percentage of people that likes things that most don't. I love projects like this anyway. One off projects make good conversation pieces in a campground. One of my favorite things to do is compare notes and projects with other campers. You always find some sort of one off custom item somebody has made, usually better than a big manufacturer. Kind of like my daughters gooseneck trailer for her power wheels (in my photo album). Nobody made one, and I knew she'd want a trailer like dad's. It's got a lot of attention in some campgrounds and struck up plenty of questions and conversations. Always makes you feel good when you can say, I made that.

Trail Air TriGlide Pin Box Soft Cover - Final Product

So here it is. My new one off pin box cover. It's made from a very thick chocolate brown colored vinyl. I would probably make a few changes here and there, but overall it serves its purpose, and I like it. Right now it has about 8 grommets underneath with the small bungees, but if I did it again, I'd probably do it with adjustable snap buckles.

Very nice! Maybe rare earth magnets rather that straps? A lot of steel to hold on to.
