Update on Murphy bed

I am new to the forums, so perhaps this has been addressed before. I have a 22.6 foot Wildwood FSX that has a Murphy bed that folds down into a queen bed. The mattress is just so uncomfortable! Does anyone know if there is an upgrade to this mattress? It has to have the fold in it to be able to fold the bed back up and use it as a couch. Thanks for any help that you can give me, Jen.
Also I need to mention, I took the Murphy bed mattress out and bought a 6in gel foam mattress which is very comfortable but in order to fold the bed back up the mattress has to be taken off and stored someplace, kind of a pain!

When we bought our Rockwood 2507S, the murphy bed already had a 2" memory foam pad on the mattress that makes the bed very comfortable and folds up with the mattress with no problem. I just wish the seats on the couch and dinette were more comfortable. The solution to that was to buy a summer place in Maggie Valley NC and fit it with some Lazy Boy chairs and Serta mattresses. LOL

It’s 3:37 am and my back is KILLING ME! We have tried everything to make this bed work. I think we are going to have to sell. I’m so disappointed. We love the unit except for the Murphy bed. Any suggestions?

Kinda off the wall idea. What about an inflatable mattress or topper. With a power fan it's easy up and easy down.

We bought a 10" Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam mattress from Amazon. You get a 30 day warranty and, while I have not tested the process, was told they have contracts to have them picked up for return if requested.

We've slept on it and it's far more comfortable than the factory mattress. DW likes it a bit more than I do but it's a huge improvement. By replacing it you lose the heated mattress part but you can replace that with a heated mattress pad. As we're going to dump the factory mattress I'm considering taking the top liner off to see if I can salvage the heater somehow.

Note: ours is a full queen, not RV queen. I don't know if the foam around the edges differs from the foam in the center but, if length is an issue, perhaps you could cut a few inches off the end if you can't find an RV-specific size. If you do, use a bread knife.

After a second trip we determined that it being 10" interferes with the headboard when opening the bed. You have to pull the mattress toward the foot of the bed to get it past the top corner of the mattress. It can drop back to the normal location when fully opened.

We ordered the 8" version of the same mattress as a replacement. We tried the 8" at home and find there is no difference to us. We're leaving on a 2 week trip soon and will know for sure.

For reasons I don't understand, the 8" costs $10 more than the 10". The 6" is much cheaper than both but I'd think the difference in padding would be significant.

Ours came with a Serta mattress which was quite comfortable, but maybe not all come with that mattress. I thought it was fine but wife wanted a memory foam, so we replaced it with an 8" memory foam mattress from Amazon a few weeks ago when they were on sale for $159. It works great.

We put a 3" memory foam topper on our Murphy bed and it helped immensely. I recommend shopping for the type of foam designed to not trap body heat. Traditional memory foam can get really hot, but there are newer versions that bring the temp down.
