Upgrade for the ZX700

Is there an upgrade sold out there for the ZX700? Just bought a 2011 Flagstaff 829BHSS and to my surprise its not HD! Kind of a waste to have HD tv's in the camper and having the DVD hooked up with RCA jacks. I know the ZX700 does not have HDMI so I'm hoping they have an upgrade out there.

Not absolutely sure, but the connections don't make it High Definition. The only High Definition DVD players out there are labeled "Blue-Ray". Any other DVD player, regardless of connections is not High Definition. Also your movies, or DVD's would have to be "Blue-Ray" also. That would be true high definition.

I understand that, but they do have DVD players out there that up convert regular DVD's to HD quality picture. I just don't understand why they put HD tv's in a camper if you can't get good quality picture on it. I played a DVD for the first time in it and the picture was really bad, really blurry. Even had some lines in it.

Dvd up converting? I've never heard of such a thing.

I have the same unit you have and the picture is great.
While playing dvds.

You have an hd tv for over the air hd programing
as well as for hd park cable and hd satellite.

I don't see how its a waste.

I know it's really not a waste but just seems they should be putting blue-rays in campers now they are really cheap now. Thanks for your responses though. They do have dvd player out there now that can play dvd's at close to HD quality.

Ha! I was at home. I just bought this camper and was testing everything out. Believe me when I'm camping I spend most of my time by the fire. This is my first camper. We used to tent it.

The Genesis GT 3.0 / Concertone ZX800 I believe has an HDMI port but it is not cheap.

Concertone® Online Store

Just remember the Concertone units are really the only game if you want 5.1 audio with a sub in a 12v RV unit. The Jensen units are stereo with no sub out if you are thinking of going that way. There are some Car audio systems that people use not sure which ones though.

YEP! Some Sony products do this. Their blueray players (which also play DVDs) will upgrade the picture to almost HD as do their Bravia TVs. Some sort of pixel averaging to fill in the missing pixels - according to their sales pitch anyway.

Well, after reading this again, you can't make chicken salad out of chicken ##### If it ain't blue ray, it ain't High Definition. The cable that hooks it up has nothing to do with it.

If you really want HD, the n it has to be BLUE-RAY. End of story, and good luck in your search.

Boy Windrider that was pretty nasty reply! If you read my post it says "Close to HD quality" and yes I do have a player that up converts the disc to a higher quality picture.

I know this is an older thread but based on the reply from windrider I just had to chime in to say that cables also play a role in HD. The old RCA cables are not able to be used on anything HD you would have to use component cables or ideally HDMI. So, yeah cables do make a difference. Hooking up your blue ray with RCA cables isn't going to provide you true HD.

I also agree with OP in that the RV manufacturers are way behind the times as far as electronics are concerned. Concertone may provide Bluetooth, but no HDMI inputs, and a general lack of features on all their units. That being said, you can't always please everyone. I would be happy to add $1000 to my purchase price to get HD, surround sound and blu ray added to my TT. I know many on here never use a television in their camper so they wouldn't want to pay that amount. It would be nice to at least have the option to customize the electronics!

Most newer DVD players that have HDMI outputs upconvert from 720p to 1080i when the HDMI cable is used. You MUST use the HDMI input on the TV to get it, though. The upconverting is done by software in the player "on the fly".

I use my Concertone ZX-700 to play the 5.1 surround sound from the TV output and music CDs (including mixed MP3 CDs for special occasions).

I use the TV to switch the inputs I am using:

Tuner - Over the air broadcasting in HD
VGA - Computer in HD- Work; Movies; surfing; email
HDMI - Upconverting DVD player - in HD
COMPONENT - X-BOX for games - in HD

You can buy an inexpensive HDMI output DVD player (not BluRay) for about $40. A lot cheaper than purchasing the Genesis.

You can get the Sony blu ray/DVD P
player (HDMI output) for $99. And it has the DVD quality upscale feature.

Couple of thoughts in response to some of the comment...

- I don't think you can buy a TV that is not HD anymore. Sure I know you can get 720 in lieu of 1080 and mix in a bunch of scan rates (which make a hugh difference in picture quality and price), but regular TV I am not sure.
- We realize that BluRay Players are getting fairly inexpensive, but that is only on piece of the puzzle. The entertainment systems we supply are centers not players only.
- Our DVD players that are connected via the HDMI cable are indeed "unconverted". You will notice a great picture.
- I think our subwoofers make a huge difference, especially when some manufacturers are going with 3" speakers.
- There is even another subwoofer output if you wanted to add another one. The cost is only $59.95.

We are always open to suggestions for new functions and features AND if there are any you do not use and we could remove.
