Window valance

I noticed a while back that my roll up zebra shades were getting in a bind when rolling them up and finally noticed why.

The cheap pressboard framework that was installed was falling apart and falling down. The staples had pulled loose and everything was sagging.

Built a lot better valance back in place.
Also, I found that the blinds worked better when I mounted them so that they rolled down from the wall side.

Yes, looks nice. A little common sense applied along the way goes a long way to making a good-looking job and a functional job.

Thanks guys.

I am rather happy with the results.

The framework of studs in the slide out is very inconsistent with anything I've ever encountered with residential frame construction. I expected that, but wow was it tough to find wall studs to secure it to. Maybe typical, but at least on mine, there is a stud that runs all the way across at the top of the slide out wall. And even doubled up over the 2 windows.

Luckily, the interior of the slide out is 11'-11 13/16" wide.
Basically, all it is a 1x3x12' mounted horizontal against the roof with L-brackets with 3 small braces(each end and the middle) and the zebra blinds mount to the bottom of the 1x3.
The board you see is a 1x6x12'. I found a spray paint that matched the other interior wood color and painted both sides of that board. It even shows a similar wood grain. I screwed the 1x6 to the 1x3 framework already mounted using regular wood screws with the head concealed by using screw caps that I had also painted the same color.

So, the whole thing is serviceable to access the blinds or easily remove if needed.

Most importantly, it looks much better than the cheap valances and curtains that were installed from the factory. As you can see from the one picture, I really didn't have much choice but to replace it.

Total cost, including paint, was about $70

Now, my next project is to do something with that jacknife love seat. It has just never been comfortable to sit on and way to small for anyone beyond a small child to sleep on. I have no small children. I need a seat to watch TV if that is deemed necessary

Simply put, jack-knife sofa by name, will be uncomfortable. My suggestion, remove it, put it in the back of the truck, go to the landfill and leave the jack-knife sofa there.

There are several very nice RV-type wall-hugging sofas available. Just takes a few dollars to resolve the issue.
