Winegard power supply wall plate??

I have a winegard RS-1500 omni antenna with a winegard RV7042 wall plate/booster. Of course I receive very little but when I was going through the wiring hooking up my satellite I noticed that when I hook up my line tester (Klein tools coax explorer) all my cables are green but as soon as I include the booster/wall plate it goes pink indicating a short. This is with power off or on through all inputs. So I bought a new one figuring it was bad and get the same reading. Is this normal cause of how the board works in the 7042 wall plate?

The results you have seen are perfectly normal.

The long version.
The Klein tester is just measuring resistance. It looks for the specific resistance of 1 of the 4 ID dongles they include within a certain tolerance. Any splitter attached to the coax will add its own resistance/capacitance to the circuit and thus the tester will see it as out of it’s expected range and show a fault.

The wall plate is a combination splitter, switcher, and power injector.

I agree with Steve-W.

Also, if you were testing for use with a satellite set-up you need to steer clear of the connections that go through the switch/power supply. (the booster is built into the antenna head. The wall plate simply supplies the power)

For the satellite to work, you need a 'home run' feed which doesn't include any splitters or switches.

Here's a pdf of 5pickers pic.

It's made to fold up, so the steps don't look like they're in order.

In many cases, including my new Flagstaff (for whatever reason I can not fathom), the front TV1 jack is not used and the main tv is "fed" off the splitter attached to TV2 on the back of the switch/power supply plate. Your may be connected that way as well.

Ok so that's normal, just dumped 25 bucks on something I do not need
As for the satellite I was planning on a separate plate. Already tested it on the cable run through the trailer and all is Good I was just checking things while I was up there playing around thought I may have stumbled on my pis poor OTA problems but guess it is still the cheesy antenna.

I had the Wingard Razar roof antenna replaced under warranty because the internal COAX had become disconnected from the circuit board. You can access the circuit board on the roof with the correct size TORX bit and peek inside to make sure the COAX connector is tight. You can also drop the turn knob cover and make sure the thin coax that runs up the shaft is also tight.

If you have a Wingard Sensar style you just climb on the roof and the connection is right at the head exposed to the elements. Check there for corrosion and tightness.
