Almost…but not quite there…you don’t know which brother you are talking to…

If you ask them which road their brother would say to take then they will always tell you the wrong road. If you ask the truthfully brother, he will tell you what the liar would say, and if you ask the liar, he will tell you the same thing because he is lying about what the truthful brother would say.

At the fork there will be two brothers.

One brother always tells the truth and the other brother always lies.

You can only ask one brother one question about the right road to town.

What question will you ask one of the brothers?

Magnet vs Iron

You are put in a room. The room has no bearing on your mission.
For the sake of this mission you are naked so you have nothing but what is before you in the room.
Before you are 2 identical red pieces of what appear to be metal.
They are the same size in every dimension (12”L x 0.5”W x 0.5”D) They look and feel identical.
They are not identical though, one is a magnet and one is a magnetic material.
Your job, determine which is the magnet.
Remember, you only have the two items to work with, nothing else… shoot, you’re buck naked….

Balance both on the tips of your fingers. If one shows any indication of rotating, it's magnetic.

Maybe, possibly but I doubt that would happen and even of it did there is no guarantee that the one that maybe rotated is the magnet….

….but your on the right track thinking about magnetic fields….

You did not say "one is a magnet and the other is a magnetic material." Interpreting that precisely, the other may be non-ferrous.

That still doesn't identify which is the magnet.

Details…lol… if you put the two together they will stick together and you will need to PRY them apart…

Rub them together enough to create some metal filings. The one the filings stick to is the magnet.

Edit: Hmm... is the red color rust? If so, shavings will be easy to make.

Oh, I forgot to say the red color is an epoxy based paint and will not rub off….

Put them together like a capital “T”
If the magnet is the vertical part of the T they will strongly stick together, if the magnet is the horizontal one they won’t stick together as strongly.
(Assumes N/S of the magnet is along the length)
