They were still doing a lot of kitchen table births in that era, especially in the rural areas. My late wife's family among them.

If you got problems in your state with bags everywhere
You need to look hard at why people can't put their trash away properly
I personally re-use my shopping bags wherever I can as liners for small trash bins
+ picking up yukky stuff is fast and easy... those cheap gloves are so hard to put on
We don't use landfills ... Burn baby burn!
