Kind of the same when you see welders/tank sets up in the air at the end of a crane cable.
Not just around “here”, it’s around everywhere. Few years back an individual in almost downtown Atlanta climbed up to one of those buckets. Seems he stole a little more than he could carry and fell off. Died a few days later. Karma is a biatch.

Buckets up

Dad and I would leave the buckets or implements up when it was safe to do so. That way we could check the hydraulics for leaks and weak hoses. If it was down the next morning, start looking for puddles.

Every equipment rental place in creation stores everything extended up.

Could be for advertising. Could be decades of experience says that’s the best way to do it.

The outer bands of Laura have started coming thru NW La. Little rain in Shreveport but much more will come early in the morning. Looks as though this will be much the same as hurricane Rita. I just hope not. Hope everyone stays safe.Click image for larger version

Stay safe and good luck. Been streaming some live web cams and looks pretty nasty for the whole state of LA. Likely getting to your area now.

Well, we made it in NW La. Not too much damage. Lots of power outages, ours included, lots of trees and or limbs down. Worse damage was 60 plus miles south and all the way to the coast. Thanks to all for thoughts and prayers.

Many people without power still, including my mom next door, where a tree uprooted and took out her power line and my cable internet, ran on the same poles. It bent her riser coming out of her meter base where it is now horizontal. Broke one hot leg but the other is still hot, and the case is energized. Entergy is supposed to be here today to disconnect from their line, but as the nice lady told me on the phone, that may not happen for sure with still over 60000 people without power in our parish

We just got power restored at my shop yesterday evening. I have many friends and family going into their third day without power. So many traffic lights out, and people not adhering to the four way stop rule

All the gas stations that are open have vehicles lined out to road getting fuel, mostly for generators. Same with fast food restaurants that are open. They are lined out in the road

The news says our parish and Lake Charles have the most power outages and damage.

Here are a few pics of the uprooted tree and downed power line at our houses. I've lost count of just how many trees we've lost and limbs, which were still coming down yesterday. Nothing yet has hit a house or vehicle, luckily. When I built my house next to mom's, I ran my power line underground from the pole for these kind of situations, so we are good there. However the cable internet is above ground, and losing that is the worse thing according to my son. Lol Click image for larger version

Wmtire, these things are all temporary and can be repaired (even the cable internet!). Thankfully everyone is safe.

I'm going to venture a guess and say those semi trucks at Grainger this morning have generators. That would explain the people lined up at their door waiting for them to open, and filling up the Arby's parking lot next door which doesn't open till 10:30.

I already saw gas stations that are out of fuel Click image for larger version

Had to go to parts yard to find a replacement winch and then to the tire store to get a used wheel & spare tire.
Had a similar thing happen to me a couple of yers ago. We were towing out RV to a redwood campground in NorCal. After turning off Hwy 1 there was a 1 & 1/2 lane poorly paved road for several miles th the campground entrance. Literally, one had to pull on to the shoulder if you met an oncoming vehicle. When we reached the actual entrance th the park we stopped as the last .4 mile was strictly a single lane and it was impossible to pass as the redwoods were tight to the road. There was one spot where 2 trees were only 9.5 ‘ apart and you had to thread the needle. But I digress.

As we are stopped at the entrance a pickup pulls up and asks if we lost a tire. The spare on the trailer was under mounted just behind the A frame. I look under and no spare just a frayed cable. Now consider this. We just got off the freeway. The tire must have dropped totally flat on the ground and then slid under both axles with inches to spare. Had it dropped on the freeway and caught an axle it could have flipped the trailer!

One of the advantages of being RVers is that most of us already have generators.

I have two. One would keep the fridge going. The other would be assigned to TV, Internet, and a few lights.

On those in line to get gas: The time to get gas is before the disaster hits. I keep several cans full of gas. At the end of the season, they will be dumped into the truck tank and refilled with fresh.
