so
1 apple + 2 bananas = 18
So
10 + 2 bananas = 18
So
2 bananas = 18 – 10 = 8
So
8/2 bananas = 4
So 1 banana = 4

Line 3
1 banana – 2 coconut halves = 2
So
4 – 2 coconut halves = 2
So
4 = 2 + 2 coconut halves
So

So

Rules of math, do addition/subtraction first so

my 1st. answer was 15(didn't see the x or the 3 bananas)
2nd, was 44(still didn't see the 3 bananas)
3rd. was 33(had forgotten the "order of operation" rule,.... hey, it's been almost 50 yrs. give an old man a break)

correct answer is 31

I blew it up and if the bananas in the 4th line are different than in the upper lines, it's sure as heck hard to tell.

If so, it would appear that the "trick" to the puzzle is to give you a crappy picture.

That's a pretty low way to go.

PS: I agree with 33 (not 31) using the crappy picture.

Well I've got a degree in math and I have said 15, 33, thirty something else, and some other guess.

(I admit, my degree in math was obtained at a time in history when there were only 19 known numbers in the entire universe).......

I don't know who the OP is, but if doesn't come back and explain, I vote to have him banned.

And I also think every poster should be required to 'show their work'.........required on ANY math test!!! LOL

Retired high school math teacher.....It's more about the pictures of the fruit than it is about the math...like others have said....watch the number of bananas in each bunch and then watch the coconut halves....make sure at the end you use the correct order of operation....Rule is "always multiply and divide before you add and subtract"....31.....if I messed it up it's because my certification has expired and so has most of my brain.

I'm going to stick with 33, as I'm reading the equation, doing it in the order it's presented. If you do the multiplication first, then yes, it's 31, but then there should be parentheses around the apple and bananas. But agree, the pics are a little sneaky.
