No No No. This thread has legs. It has nothing to do with any of the normal hot button topics. I am staying with my first wag.
I do want to meet the OP and just stare at him. Job well done.

OK win,
What is the correct answer. You've had multiple guesses. Crown a champion here my friend.
So who get's the all expenses paid (water, sewer, and power included !!) free night in the RV park of their choice?
Who get's the win, win?

The first reply was the correct answer. 31!
3 apples = 30, so each apple is 10
an apple plus 8 bananas is 18. so Each banana is 1
4 bananas minus 2 coconuts =2, so each coconut is 1
So 1 Coconut + 1 Apple x 3 bananas =
1 + (10 x 3)=
1 + 30=
31

And on the other one from Herk, the correct answer is "It can't be done."
Assume the track is 2 miles around. You want to average 60 mph, or 1 mile per minute, so it will take you two minutes to go around the entire track.
You drive the first half (1 mile) at 30 mph, or a mile every two minutes. Now, you are half-way around and have used up all of your time (two minutes) so you have no time left to finish the second mile of the track and still circle the whole track in two minutes, no matter how fast you go.
So, it can't be done under the scenario that Herk laid out.

Herk's original question has nothing to do with time. Time is not in the question. No where is 2 minutes mentioned. What am I missing?

If you go half way around a circular track averaging 30MPH, how fast do you have to travel on the second half of the track to average 60MPH for the entire track?
(Your choice of vehicle can effect your answer) .

He was just using that as an example. He's right though. The correct answer is that it can't be done.

Captn Mike is correct. Of course time factors into it. That's how you have to calculate average speed... Total distance / Total time. No matter what the total distance is, if the first half averaged 30 MPH, then there's no way you can achieve an average of 60MPH.
Assume the track is REALLY long... 60 miles. To average 60 MPH you have to drive the whole track in one hour.
But you drove the first half, (30 miles) at 30MPH, so it took you an hour to drive that half. But you need to drive the entire track in one hour! You have no time left to finish the next 30 miles.

^^^ Probably the best explanation of the correct answer in the whole thread. I'm shocked at how many people don't know (or remember) the order of operations.

No, you did it too. There is no time limit. 60 MPH is a measure of speed only.

MPH = miles per hour. Speed is a measure of distance divided by time.
