New Wildwood 260rt Platinum

After spending some time looking at used toy haulers that were either beat up or too heavy, we decided on a new 260rtx. Went up to RV Wholesalers in Lakeview, OH and picked it up yesterday. They a) had one in stock and b) sold it for 4k under anyone else's prices I had found.

Tows nice behind the 2.7 F150 STX Crew 4x4 with the 2.7. I'm using a Fastway E2 trunion hitch and had zero sway and minimal truck suck. Set the cruise at 65 and averaged 10.2 from Lakeview to the WV line and by the time I got home to Pittsburgh mpg had fallen to 9.8. Pretty good numbers. Albeit unloaded.

Went to lowes today to get some brackets for bed fram reinforcing as I can see me going right through the staples.

Ordered a max air cover for the bathroom vent, 2 led lights for the pass through and tow mirror slip ons from etrailer.

I will have to move the stabilizer jacks a foot or so forward, cut off the triangular drag feet and maybe add weld-on rollers to the rear for my driveway slope, but I got it up unloaded ok by taking off the hitch bars.

I'll be writing up what I do as I go.

One thing I am going to check the factory on is the fact it was built with a 13.5 AC and the quick fact sheet says toy haulers will come with a 15k. Also, the toy hauler fsx models have a walk on roof and the travel trailers have Luan non walk roofs. Click image for larger version

Emmm.... you might want to consider backing that rig up the driveway. Not only will that give you more clearance when backing up, it'll allow you to get your truck out of the garage.
Congratulations on your new rig and welcome to the forum.

Congrats!

I ended up needing to go new to get one as well. When I was looking 2 years ago I couldn't make contact with anyone on a decent looking used toy hauler before they were sold.

Thanks guys. I think these trailers are a good choice especially if you understand how lightly they are built, and use special care when using them. For the price they can't be beat.

I did spend about 5 hours with the wife last night loading and organizing the new rig.

First thing I did was to add metal bracing to all of the underbed framing. I love these tek screws for everything around the camper, and used them for the metal strapping as well. I want to move the spare under the rig and get it out of the storage, so I'm going to look at some type of mount to put it behind the rear axles.

I loaded up all my gear into the front compartment, then went and added a tv mount and tv to the bedroom, and added some little d rings and a bungee for the living room tv instead of a mount so we can take it outside under the awning or patio deck if we choose to.

I then added a mirror to the inside bathroom door so my wife can see herself, as the medicine cabinet one is too tall for her.

She put the bedspread pillows and mattress topper all on and put everything away in the drawers and bins she bought. We're downsizing from a 317 reflection and a Bounder 35k so we needed to weed some stuff out, but are happy with the room we have.

I was having thoughts about not having a food pantry and, that my sewer and water hose bins are too tall for the pass through, then I realized they shipped the camper with 6 nice totes that fit perfectly under the rear seats! Didn't even know they were there. Shes put extra visitor sheets and pillows in 2 of them, I put motorcycle tie downs, straps and bungees in another, and shes going to use a few more as our food pantry.

I also thought about going to lowes and buying a 12x36 wall cabinet to ass over the rear curb side window for extra storage as well. Ill see what happens after our first trip out.

Here's some progress so far. Click image for larger version

Thanks will do. Where did you pull power from for those cargo lights?
Also, I found they make a 12v dimmer for LEDs and it should fit in the blank next to the awning control....if I can do that, I won't add a porch light.

I pulled the 12V power from the USB Ports mounted on the bedroom wall.
I'm going to put the white Porch light in the other side of the compartment, and I ordered another one that is Black for the Porch Light.

I noticed there are two big open areas behind the Tongue in the front of the Trailer in between the frame cross braces, plenty of room for a spare just not sure how I can mount it there.

I re read your post and did see that. I will try the same method.
I want the spare off the front to lose a little tongue weight.

I measured from the window forward to where the USB is inside the bedroom, and went outside and measured it there same way. I drilled a 1 Inch Hole Saw hole on the small lip on top that is located inside the compartment, and fished the wire down from the top with a coat hanger to where the hole was that I drilled.

Be sure there is no 110V turned on as the 110 Outlet is right there too by the USB. In other words make sure the Trailer is not plugged in. I'm sure the 110 Outlet wouldn't like coat hangers by it

Looks like my usb ports must be much farther rearward than yours as I would miss the pass through if I fished the wires down the stud cavity. Im thinking ill get it from underneath somewhere.

Did some more work to the 260 today. Added a maxxair cover over the bathroom vent, then I added a bathroom hardware set from lowes in white for only 20 bucks. Took a while to figure out where to mount the TP!
After that I installed a 36x12 wall cabinet on the curb side over the rear window as a pantry. I found one at Lowes in a very similar grey color and got some handles that match closely as well. I located the studs and ceiling joist and screwed it in. I used a bungee as a guard rail to keep stuff from flying out and added a baby lock to the handles for good measure.

Tomorrow I'm going to load the kayaks and figure out how to hold them in place. Im thinking on edge over the wheel well and adding some d rings. Ill see what happens.

One disappointment so far is I found the sink covers already are swelling up. It's cheap particle board and I assume the rv antifreeze used to winterize leaked out and got them. Im going to ask the factory for a new set or one of the roll up covers they used prior. Its only been home for 4 days and I've never hooked water up to it. Click image for larger version

Looks great, good job.

I did find a few pictures, one of where my USB is mounted in the bedroom by the window. I also found a picture of my TP Holder. It's actually a grab handle and the TP Roll slips onto it. I also have a slip on MOP Holder on one side of the
Toilet, and on the other side is another with a Broom with a snap on Dust pan.

Another thing you may want to check is the A/C. My roof mounted A/C was a real joke inside the roof. There were huge gaps in the wood and holes where they drilled for wiring. I took it all apart and sealed it all up with Foil Tape. You will also find a huge gap in the ducted A/C in between the ceiling vents and the ceiling itself. I'm sure allot of the air went straight into the ceiling instead of out the vent. I also used Foil Tape on those and sealed them all up too.

Thanks, and a good suggestion for any new camper. I've done the foil thing on all of my rigs, makes an immediate and incredible difference. I'm hoping that will help keep this thing cool in the summers as we like to travel to SC and Fla. I dig the mop and broom holder.

Did some more work tonight to load up for a shakedown trip. I started by cutting off the rear drag guards, grinding and painting smooth. I then moved the rear stabilizer jacks forward 24 inches and reattached. Finally I added a bolt on D-ring to secure the kayaks and bikes with a lock and cable.

I then rolled out the rubber mat and decided on the HF bike chock after all. I played around with where everything can fit while on the road and had a few thoughts.
1) the fact that the cushions and table are not easily storable is a -1. It took up a lot of room that I had planned to put my bicycles next to the kitchen cabinets on my initial load up.
2) I'm not sure I'm going to be able to get the HD, 2 bikes and 2 kayaks in here unless.... I load the bike 1st. Then put 1 kayak on each side of the bike, put the bicycles next to the kitchen cabinets, then stack all of the cushions and totes along the ramp door.
3) I hope I can balance out some of the tongue weight with the Harley as I think its getting up there pretty good.

Any way, I'm leaving the kayaks out this trip as I think the water is too cold for us by now, but ill revisit this on the next trip...maybe in December to FL. Click image for larger version

Good job, congrats. You could always strap table down to the bed while towing, and put all the cushions in the bedroom until you get to your destination. I like the HF Chock, just hard to get out of if your by yourself.

Where do you live and where are you heading?
