Lock out 9th and 10th gears next time you're towing.

No worries with that combo at all. Glad I didn't pay attention to the folks that preach GOT TO GO BIG! I'd have been crazy to get my bones pounded driving a 3/4 ton. As to trailer brakes failing the 1/2 ton has been tested by the SAE and can stop a 11,000lb trailer using just the trucks brakes within the required distance.
|
Not sure about the "bone pounding" 3/4 ton, they sure seem to ride smoother now. My F250 is slightly stiffer ride than my last King Ranch F150, and I have the plow and towing packages. I am glad to have the bigger ride, but I am towing a heavier camper too.

you will be just fine with a 1500.. my buddy has the same trailer and towed it with a tacoma for a year before he went 1/2 ton. Just get a good WDH, don't over load it, and you'll do just fine
what people also forget, is that it isn't just the type of truck (1/2 ton/3/4 ton/1ton) pulling the trailer, but also the length of said truck. The longer the truck (think crew cab long bed) the more stable it will be towing (compared to a reg cab short box/crew cab short box).
Make sure you load your camper correctly too. Toy haulers like a toy (or two) in the rear to help pull weight off the tongue, so don't put all of your weight up front. If you can, spread out the added weight on the inside of the camper

My TV is not my daily driver...but I have always found it good to have more truck than you need...it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it!
...especially when you get in mountains!

I pull a TT that weighs 5800 loaded with a 17 GMC 1500 5.3. Look for the 8 speed or the new 10 speed transmission. Big improvements.

I tow my Wolf Pup 18RJB with my 2017 Toyota Tacoma (w/ Tow Package). No problems towing, but the gas mileage sucks. I get about 8mpg.

What does a 'tow package' on a Tacoma consist of ? A receiver hitch ?

A 3 second Google search found this:
"Standard on all V6 grade models of the new Toyota Tacoma is a tow package. This engineering feature includes an engine oil cooler, automatic transmission fluid cooler, Trailer Sway Control, 4 & 7 pin converter, a*130-amp*alternator, and a Class IV receiver hitch."

Trailer-Sway Control, Towing hitch receiver , Integrated Trailer Brake Controller, Supplemental engine oil cooler, Supplemental transmission cooler, TOW/HAUL Mode switch (just changes shift points), Heavy-duty battery and alternator (battery didn't look special to me...)
