Dometic refrigerator got hot!

I have a 2016 Rockwood Ultra light 33 footer that my wife and I are staying in as we build our new log house. My wife called me in to look at the freezer its hot and burnt she said! I went to see it and as I opened the freezer door I saw a long horizontal dis-colored yellow streak across the top edge on the inside and it was hot! Anyone else had this issue? We are using the electric mode not LP. We have only been in it for 3 months and we just came back from the lake last weekend and it wasn't like that then!It is plugged in to a RV type 30 amp plug in our new build with 200 amp service panel professionally installed. We turned it off and put our food in our house style refrigerator in our building.

That's the door heater it looks like(assuming). Inside your home box sometimes there is a switch that says "economy" or " energy saver" or something similar to that. This is a heater designed to keep condensation down on the inside and out of the fridge.

Should it get so hot that it burned a small slit in the plastic? I've seen where several Dometic Refrigerators had cause fires, kind of scary since we stay in it every night !

I looked for the switch you mentioned and didn't see one. I'm going to call Tom Stinnet Rv tomorrow.I bought this brand new and have a forever warranty on it. I hope they can do something about it.

Below is a pic of the wiring for my fridge. You should have something similar for yours. In my pic, the door heater is labeled "K". It is wired in parallel with the inside light "G" and the doors light switch "H".

Never heard of a door heater getting that hot, but you can disable it. The attached shows you how to deenergize it at the light. If you don't care if you have the light or not, you can just pull the wire off of Pin J2. Note that your wiring MAY be somewhat different.

I do have a light and it is LED several in a cluster. The light is off and I'm waiting for the heat element in the panel to cool down to see if it is off. Thank you very much and I will sleep better tonight for sure!

Domestic refrigerator go tho!

We had the exact same thing happen in our 2016 Flagstaff last year on our second trip out with it. We sent pictures to our dealer and to Dometic. The unit was replaced at no cost to us.

Sounds like Dometic my have a problem! Very scary after seeing a new 5th wheel burn up at Nolin Lake 2 years ago. Thank God that the family wasn't there when it caught fire at 3 in the morning! They lost there car too because they left it parked right underneath the front the camper.

There are several of us FROGs that have gotten our DMR 702 refrigerators replaced for free by Dometic because of that very same heat strip issue. If you search for it you will find a thread concerning that. You need to contact your dealer about this asap. Don't settle for anything less than a new refrigerator. Mine was so bad it even burnt the door opposite the cabinet.

The link provided in an earlier post shows my fridge and another member's. One other member also posted his experience with the same problem.

I called the dealer and I have a Forever Warranty that I purchased when We bought our camper. They said that all inside appliances are covered with full replacement as long as we bring it in every year to have it inspected, that even covers the roof. Thank God we purchased that warranty!

Be advised that the "inspection" will most likely cost you money. Over the years, the yearly inspection cost will probably add up to more than you're going to save on this fridge. But that's how insurance works. Some folks make out and others don't.

Considering that We have only had it a year and we pay $92 and some change a year. I'm pretty sure the frigerator cost more than that. I had a toy hauler by FR Work and Play and we never had any major problems for the 7 years we owned it. Only had a hot water controller go out and I replaced that myself. We raced dirt bikes and used it every weekend not even a leak in the roof and we used it to see the races my boys were in up there.
