Fire at FR plant March 15th

Three threads on this subject have been merged.

Just saw on WSBT 22 out of South Bend that a Forest River plant in Goshen has had a large fire. Don’t know what models this plant produces.

Fire at FR plant March 15th

https://www.abc57.com/news/rv-plant-...hen-is-on-fire

Just saw this on the news feed. Not sure which plant it is. I think the R-Pod plant is in that area, a parts plant and there are also a few Lippert plants located there. Reported at 10:39 pm last night.

From what I can see on the live stream, this is the building but no sign. It is between the R-Pod plant to the right and a Lippert plant which is the blue building to the left.

One news article said it was a laminating plant and lots of fiberglass and chemicals went up. It sounded non-product line specific.

I have a Surveyor Legend on order and happened to call today for an update. My sales rep called her Surveyor sales rep and found out about the fire. This building was only for lamination and it is a shared facility so they are only expecting it to bump things back by about 2 weeks since they can likely use another shared facility. Thankful nobody was hurt and I should still get my 202rble by May!

You might be right on Lippert Plant info. See brief article (copy below)

GOSHEN, Ind. -- A Forest River RV plant on College was heavily damaged by fire Monday evening. Firefighters say some chemicals and adhesives in the building caused explosions as the fire burned.

Firefighters were first called to the scene around 8:30 p.m.

For several hours, thick smoke made it difficult for anyone nearby to see or breathe.

Lippert employees who worked next door said the fire grew quickly.

ďAt first we werenít sure the extent of like how big the fire was and what really was on fire and where it was coming from and we found out pretty quickly that it was coming from here, it just got so big so quick it was insane.Ē

There were no injuries in the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

A portion of College Avenue remained blocked off Tuesday morning.

The fire was at a Forest River Laminating plant. Fire is still burning after 24 hours.

GOSHEN, Ind. (WNDU) -Authorities have revealed the cause of Monday night’s fire at the Forest River Lamination Plant.

According to officials, a portable space heater was still running after employees went home for the evening. The heater then ignited some nearby combustibles, causing multiple explosions inside the structure.

The fire was discovered after the building was fully engulfed.

I'm guessing there was no sprinkler system or fire/smoke alarms.

Yes, they are initially expensive but do provide for an early response by FD and to tend to suppress the spread. A lot cheaper than a total loss not to mention longer interruption of production.

My insurance company even understands their value and gives out huge discounts for installation of monitored alarm and sprinklers in the home.

Like I said, just a guess but an educated one.

BTW, it's estimated that a residential sprinkler system costs about $1.35 more per sq foot in new construction, adding about 1% to the total construction cost.

I would guess just opposite....... Saying that I have never been in a Forest River Plant or a plant in Indiana. But..... I have been in nearly every factory in SW Virginia including a Fleetwood Mobile home plant. Most plants do have fire sprinkler systems. Insurance companies and OSHA require an annual inspection of the system.

Before the furniture factories moved to China we had weekly fires in the plants so it is not too surprising to me with the nature of contents of Forest Rivers plants. (Not often did they get out of hand though.)
