Does the failure to report extend to Prime Time as a subsidiary? I assume it does.

I believe the fines are more for administration violations than actual safety issues with products; At least I hope so.

Exactly, my question. What safety issues and which models did it pertain to?

Did nobody actually read the story?? (I guess a couple did)
Its fines for not complying with the "early warning reporting" obligations repeatedly.
If i remember correctly toyota had to pay millions to Nhtsa for recall and similar, late safety reports.
This is all administation type regulations that are required to be given to the nhtsa just like trucking company's have to keep and report paperwork to dot.
I doubt This has anything to do with actual events, but you have to turn your paperwork in on time.......or pay the fines.

2nd paragraph in this screen shot of the article spells it out.

Must be the fines didn't set them back too much. From the same site:

Regulators can and do sue for the smallest infraction. It is how they show they are doing their job, which is protecting their jobs. Large companies build litigation expense into their budgets. We have a small business, build in E&O costs, litigation costs into our budget, because we know we WILL be sued at some point, and even frivolous lawsuits cost money.

This reminds me of the saying that if you want to know how well a restaurant is run, check the bathrooms. If they aren't clean, what else aren't they doing right?

Failure to send in their reports could indicate a culture within PT of not seeing to the details. It's not really surprising given the quality issues of the RV industry in general.

Prime Time is a division of Forest River. This blankets all of fr. No argument from me on quality or lack of it!

It's called corporate welfare, but at least the NHTSA got some back.
They may have been fined for failure to report but it is what they failed to report that members here should be concerned with, this is why we all have to suffer the cheap tires if more people took the time to complain to the NHTSA it could change things.

This is what I was getting at in my earlier post. What safety concerns were not filed and who of us that could concern.

I searched for MY 2014 FR investigations and the following showed up in the BR entry.
Quote:
A review of NHTSA's early warning reports (EWR) database shows that Forest River has not provided NHTSA with any information regarding claims related to deaths and injuries involving the company's vehicles or any information regarding property damage claims, warranty claims, consumer complaints and field reports as required by regulation. It also appears from a search of NHTSA's databases that Forest River may have failed to submit to NHTSA quarterly reports on the company's progress completing safety recalls. Forest River may have also failed to comply with other recall-related requirements, including by failing to include required language in its recall notices to dealers and by failing to submit other recall-related communications to NHTSA. NHTSA is also investigating other potential violations of the Safety Act.

This audit query is opened to identify any violations of the Safety Act, their potential impact, and implement corrective measures to ensure compliance.
So the current answer is that they failed to submit regular recall progress summaries and notifications of warranty repairs. Since we all know the dealer warranty repair process is fraught with frustrations, I guess this is not particularly surprising. They are getting called on it. There is no mention of they ignoring anything yet.

This investigation was opened 30 Sep 2014.

Do your own NHTSA search.
  1. Go here: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchSafetyIssues
  2. Enter model year
  3. Choose "FOREST RIVER"
  4. Optionally select model
  5. Click GO
Easy.

I hope Forest River answers NHTSA's emails better than it does it's own customers. That would be an improvement.
