Yes it is a new addition. Found a little information on one dealers site.

The FR3 by Forest River was unveiled at the 2012 RV Open House for dealers in Elkhart, IN. This is a "crossover" Class A Gas motorhome that was built to rival the popular A.C.E. by Thor Industries. For those that are unfamiliar, A.C.E. stands for "A - C Evolution," and is meant to combine the advantages of both Class A and Class C motorhomes.

Class C traits -
Smaller and easier to drive, park, and store
Slightly better gas mileage
Sleeping over the cab
Smaller price tag

Class A traits -
Built on custom chassis
Driver and Passenger in same room as other riders
Panoramic front windshield
More Basement Storage

I saw in the specs that it has a 30-amp power cord. I would have throught it would require 50-amp service, but that may just be a uneducated assumption on my part.

Hi everyone...Just joined the forum because of this unit. I am active on IRV2 and the Thor ACE (which DW and I like) has a lot of QC problems IMO. How is Forest River regarding Initial Delivery of MH's? The FR3 looks like they cloned it . 30 amps should be fine for 1 AC/TV/microwave draw.
We too are trying to figure out what to get. Well I am- DW is practicing saying no ;(

Curious what you are concerned about regarding QC issues. I've been researching the ACE like crazy over the past year, including touring the plant in Elkhart a few weeks ago, and I'm not seeing any consistent thread of concerns about QC. The ACE is an entry level coach, and fit, finish and quality seem to be on par with what would be reasonable for this price point. I've found gripes about every single brand available, and Thor is no different. But I've found FAR more satisfied customers than those who feel the product let them down. If you have specific QC concerns - issues that have come up repeatedly - I'd be interested to know what they are.

As for 30 amps vs. 50 amps - 50 amps would be over kill for a coach this size with just one AC unit. 30 amps is more than sufficient.

I been researching what RV to get and started reading the ACE posts on IRV2. The earlier posts were not good..but I finally read the late 2012 and 2013 posts...the owners seem to be happier now..perhaps the factory shorten the beer break So its back on the list.

The short answer is...soon. I am told by the factory that they have many orders to fill and hope to have units on lots later this spring, but the initial offering was so popular that they have a year's worth of orders to fill already. Anxious to see it in person. And I think a big factor with many shoppers will be how it compares in price to the ACE. Hopefully it will be competitive.

We were at Wilkins RV of Bath yesterday. It wasn't there on our way in, but while driving out of the lot I saw what looked like a Thor ACE. They are a FR dealer, not Thor, so I drove by it to read what it said and on the side and it said FR3. It was all white with no graphics or stripes - kinda like an unsponsored race car. Today I did a Google search on FR3 and came up with this thread. Possibly a pre-production model and/or test mule?

Indeed. It's been on their site for some time. The question is - where to actually lay eyes on one, in person.

VERY COOL! I am not a mh person...but that looks very interesting. I love the sleek black and beige color pallet.
