Pick-up at RVW

We picked up our 2008 Rockwood 2605 last Thursday at RVW in Lakeview Ohio. Really love the trailer...

Some of the changes we've noted with the 8' wide:
Kitchen countertop and cupboards now about 6" wider,
Cabinet oak fronts are now veneer (still some solid oak on kitchen drawer fronts and cabinets over sofa and bed),
Bathroom is a bit wider...faucet/sink are still sideways.

It's our first TT...seems very roomy for the two of us.

We'll post some interior pictures soon.

BTW, crossing the border into Canada was a piece of cake as we had the proper documentation. Arranging insurance before picking it up was another story!

Oh that's too cool!

Would you mind posting a detailed narative of your RVW buying experience that I can put under RV Economics?

Congrats on the new TT.......From what I have read and heard about importing form the US, it does sound pretty easy.

I know the prices at RVW are unbeatable from our dealers in Canada, but were you able to get a better price from their advertised price or any freebies thrown in?

We are looking at the 83177SS from RVW but need to sell our TT first.

Don't know if the prices are negotiable or if freebies can be had...didn't try for either. We thought that we were making out like bandits and left it at that.

What part of Hamilton are you from...we're probably neighbors!

I don't blame you on the not negotiating on the price. Compared to the prices here, we will be saving about 7-10 thousand on the price of the 83177. Already priced them and did all the numbers.

We're not that far away, East Mountain, Fennel and Upper Gage. We'll have to explain to our forum friends whats it like living at this elevation.

Good luck with selling the trailer.

As you requested:

The purchase experience at RVW is about as painless as it can get. The base cost, option list and prices are all there in front of you...no hidden costs. You can compare your optioned out price against other wholesalers and dealers. The wholesalers all seem to be very close in price. Discussions with RV Direct and RV Direst Wholesalers fell by the wayside as they didn't bother to return our phone calls. Prices for the same unit at other dealers at we found on-line ranged from $3000 to $8000 higher. One dealer in western US even had the MRSP listed a $29,000? (must of had something else attached to the back of the trailer). Sure there's a lot of room for price negoiation with the dealer, but that's just a tiresome process. How much trust do you have with a dealer knowing that there's about 0 to 30% discount available depending on your negotiating skill and his willingness to sell.

Our sales rep, Dave Prosser, was very helpful in the process. He promptly returned and answered our many questions, he emailed picture of trailers with the 3 new decor schemes to aid in our decision and was able to make option changes for us after the order was placed. He even sent us pictures of the TT once it arrive at RVW to allay our anxiousness with the changes to 8 foot wide. A great guy to deal with.

The thing that you need to understand, is that when you're buying from afar, you had better be prepared to do a lot of the minor repairs yourself. If you're not comfortable with that, best to buy locally. We're okay with that as there's no FR dealer close by so saying money on the purchase rules the decision.

The other half of the deal is the post purchase dealing to resolve any problems that crop up. That I can't say as of yet, though we have a couple of minor issues that we've asked for a response to, so we'll see.

OK thanks Dave and Monica...have a blast with your new toy. I've been in touch with Dave Prosser about the 8280SS we plan to buy soon and he did seem to be a really nice guy and a proffesional.

Moving post to RV Economics

LOL. Not far away at all. Kids play basketball every Saturday morning at a school around there.

You know, they may not understand what it's like to live on this Mountain in Hamilton. I'm sure we can explain.

Congrats on the new travel trailer and from the pics you posted, it looks real nice. Maybe we'll see you at a campground in the 08 camping season.

We just bought a roo 23rs from RVW and they have been great... but more to come. I am consistanly waiting for the other ball to drop. Scared to death as this is our first ever purchase or RV. Meeting driver half way to save on shipping. We did negotiate. After they stated that they were giving 500$ off the onsite trailers, it became clear they have room to budge. We got the 500 off the deal and 210 in accessories. Not a ton of room, but again. 7G's less then local dealer and local dealer knows what we are doing!

Small World eh!

Have you booked any sites for this year yet?

We've planning on a lot of camping in New York State.
