The FMCA Has Voted To Open Membership To All RV's

The Family Motor Coach Association (FMCA) membership has voted to open the organization to all types of RV's, not just motor homes. Prior to the vote the FMCA was restricted to motor homes with the exception of some legacy members who had owned a motor home previously but now have a TT. See Here for the FMCA FAQ's about the announcement.

So why does this matter? The FMCA offers some very good benefits to its members that all RVer's will soon be eligible to access. For a list of current benefits See Here. I've found the FMCA a very viable competitor to Good Sam / Camping World as far as benefits.

I'm glad to see this change to the FMCA. Quite frankly I've thought it was too biased towards Class A's and it needed the diversity this change should bring. The FMCA has also installed new leadership so this will be an interesting time!

If you have any questions please contact the FMCA Here. I'm not a member of a FMCA Chapter, 70% of the FMCA membership isn't, so I'm probably going to have to plead ignorance on most questions.

Boy, members with TT & 5th wheels will have to make sure you have a Rear Ladder so you have a mounting place for your "FMCA Plaque"! I bet the Old Dyed in the Wool FMCA members will greet us with "Open Arms"! What will be next the "Wally Byam Caravan Club" so we can wear the Wally Berets! Youroo!!

Since it was a majority vote FOR opening it up to all RVers why would you think that? Thatís like saying the folks at Frog events donít fraternize with those in what they may perceive as lessor rigs? I donít think so, but if you are prejudiced against someone else for any reason you shouldnít go to rallies that are meant for fun and friendships. Just sayin.

Not so clear cut as the announcement makes it seem. From the FAQ:

1) Will FMCA chapters be required to allow owners of towable RVs to join their chapter? No. Chapters still control their own bylaws. Your chapter will not be required to allow owners of towable RVs to join the chapter if your chapter members do not wish to do so. The scope of the chapter will continue to be the chapter members’ decision, and bylaws can be amended at any time (to include – or exclude – based on non-discriminatory factors). Many chapters already have restrictions or special interests in terms of the brand of vehicle, engine manufacturer, hobbies, etc.

Actually that makes sense although there may be a few who exclude most apparently were FOR the change as they had the first vote as to whether it should be put up to vote by the General Membership. There could also by that mean that you could start a group just for whatever you Camp in.

Yes, heck I wanted to join just for the Travel Assist included in membership and was sad since we were 5ers.

You do not have to be a member of a "Chapter" to be a full member of the FMCA. As quoted above Chapters can regulate their membership just like the "Clubs" in FROG do today. With my Ford based Class C there are several FMCA Chapters I'm not eligible to join...but then I can't join the RPOD "Club" of FROG either.

And if you want to you could start a new Chapter based on what ever requirements you, and the other potential members, deemed appropriate...within the Chapter guidelines.

FMCA

I can understand you being happy about FMCA opening up to everyone. However, my membership number ,will be able to issued to someone else,I won't need it any longer. The idea of a group with similar interest (Class A) is the reason I joined. Using this forum as an example unless you familiar with 5th or TT, I have no idea of what the unit even looks like. My FMCA member sign was taken off my motorhome this morning. This PC world will put us on our knees in time.

I am looking at this and will investigate the member benefits further.
In my mind, after reading the posts about the mindset, I am wondering what it would be like at a rally on pot luck night...

See thatís the sad thing, but going with the majority is how most clubs do work. Itís sad that you donít even want to give it a chance.

I think you need to do a History lessen before you tell Me about Rallys,I was Involved in the 1st Frog rally,as well as the Oldest Continuous Frog Rally,The Tadpole that will be 8th year! We have always been Open to any Forest River RV,and Friendly to ALL! I notice that now there are Several Groups that have "Isolated" themselves in regards to "Brand/Model/Size/Type" what will they come up with next "Color/Price/Age"! Come One come all as long as it's a Forest River product! You need to preach elsewhere about "Fun & Friendships" because it already Exists at FROG Rallys! Youroo!!
