How to change to LED?

Just purchased a new to me 2010 Rockwood Roo. When running the lights they seem to get pretty warm. Would love to change out the bulbs to LED. Is this possible and how do I do this? I figured out how to remove the lens but that's where I got stuck because the bulb just plugs in. Thoughts? The suggested replacement is a 12v type 921 I think. It's hard to read the stamping on the metal.

There are many 'sizes' and color hues on the 'light spectrum'. Some are push in, just as the one shown and some the 'push and turn' bulb type connection, but flat. They are costly and you will put out a lot of money to replace all of the 'bulbs'. I would suggest to 'check the lighting hues' and only buy one or two bulbs to see if you 'like' the color spectrum shade, before buying too many. There are many varieties and cost variants, so search around.

I have two in my unit and do not like them at all because they give out a 'bluish' light. barely use that light fixture.

That is a 921 lamp. I've replaced all the lamps in the last two RV's we've owned.

I bought Paddle Style 921 LED's

I like the 5000k color units, but a lot of people like the 2500k to 3000k units.

5000k is bright white, and 2500k is yellow, & matches regular incandescent color. If you like a good white light, go with the 5000k units and if you prefer the color of regular incandescent lamps, go with the 2500k to 3000k units. If you get much above 6000k they start getting blue in color.

As said above, if you're not sure which color you want, buy a couple of each and install them until you decide.

The light switches will stop working if left on with regular bulbs

Very inexpensive upgrade. I like the warm white 3500K - 4500K bulbs for general task lighting.

I did find the 42-SMD was not bright enough for the DW to apply the war paint so I bought some 68-SMD cool white for the bathroom. (6000K) She thanked me.

There are tons of LED replacement bulbs on eBay. I personally like the warmest light I can get so 2500K to 3000K is what I look for.

LEDs are cheap if you search a little bit.

Wow! Thank you all for the wonderful advice and links. This will be on my upgrade list asap. I really don't like how hot the bulbs get when using them and I'm sure the battery life will improve too. Now to figure out how to install a light switch at the door so I don't have to fumble around the ceiling to turn on a light.

One of the first upgrades we did to our TT was to change out the bulbs to LED's. These are what I found on Amazon after doing some research.

GRV T10 921 194 24-3528 SMD LED Bulb lamp Super Bright Warm White DC 12V Pack of 10

These were the closest I could find to the color of the incandescent bulbs. They ran under $20 for 10 and out of two orders, there was only one which was a dud. We've been very pleased.

No more "too hot to touch" lenses either.

Heat means current draw, make light not heat.
I kind if ticks me off my 2017 Palomino has all LED from the factory EXCEPT the outside light which is the one light most likely to want to leave on all night. So I too have one needing replacement.

I have the same issue for my porch light.

Bought this for a little more than a buck to try out. Haven't had a chance to put it in yet

Agree with Brother Les and Bama Rambler... several points to consider. Look at https://www.superbrightleds.com/sear...-products/921/ and you will see that LED color (I like 5000 to 6000... seems brighter), Brightness (amazing differences), and Beam Angle (if you don't need it to shine 360 degrees... focus the beam where you need it)... but also consider the size and shape so it will fit. This link has quality items (my experience) that are more expensive but I think worth it when you decide what you need; however, you may want to use them for info and buy some cheap items as you decide.

The same is true on our Shamrock. That seems to be consistent. Is there a reason? Are incandescents more weather proof?

The same exact fixture is made with an LED bulb in them. Probably a few pennies cheaper to source the incandescent.

We installed the paddle style bulbs when we first bought our unit. Never had a problem with any of them and they do make a difference. But they are difficult to install without bending them.

DW always says that I have too many tools. Not so, I quite often raid the kitchen utensil drawer when she is not looking. For these paddle shape bulbs, I used the leading edge of a spatula to seat them. Perfect use of a spatula-didn't get caught this time!

Kitchen tools are still tools no matter where they're intended to be used. Hilarious! I've used mortar tools and kitchen spatulas while building sand castles with my daughters:-)

I ordered a few test bulbs for the 921 and finally settled on this one:

I ordered 40, and installed about 33 in my 5th wheel, all worked the first time, good merchant. This pancake style has has LEDs pointing down, more effective than the barrel type which spreads the light around. I checked the difference with a light meter. Also the 921 is about 18 w vs. the 4.5 w of these. These yield abou the same brightness, but units feel only slightly warm. These are about 3,000k, warm white.

So I ended up buying these of Amazon and am pretty happy with the results so far. Every one worked and it was supper easy to install. The hardest part of the project was getting the lens cover off the light fixture! It takes a good grip and some pressure to slide it off. Thanks for all the suggestions!
