Is the fresh water tank is full?

We have a new ROO 21SS and we are taking her out for a shakedown trip this weekend. How do you know when the fresh water tank is full? Will the water just start pouring out of the inlet while filling?

Yep. Or you can look at the indicator lights inside, but they won't be nearly as accurate as seeing water coming out of the inlet instead of going in. [emoji6]

Ok... from what I’ve been reading , I’m not so sure I will be trusting those indicator lights.

They give you a general idea of tank levels... But sloshing, flushing, etc..., etc..., can really affect the readings.

The accuracy problem folks complain about is normally on the waste tanks, especially black water, as crud can cause them to give false readings if it builds up.

Is the fresh water tank is full?

If you’re right there, you will quickly become familiar with the noise change just before it overflows [emoji4]

And if you want to be sure it has every drop it can take, let it sit for a minute then turn the water on at a low rate until it overflows again.

Tip... If truely boondocking and not having access to a water hook up, hook up the hose to your city water inlet befor or after filling your fresh water tank. Turn it ON and open a hot and a cold faucet in the TT until water flows thru steadily. What this is doing is purging the air out of the system which aids in pump priming... And also fills your 6 gallon hot water tank ahead in stead of pumping water from your fresh tank. Allows you to carry another 6 gallons of water.

i personally dont fill my water tanks bfor traveling unless I know I have no water source where I am going.

Another issue.

I liked my past 2109s as I could visually see the FW tank. Not so on the 2511. Have to rely on the sensors for an approximate level. Water out the vent/ and or overflow is really the only reliable way to know when full. Good point made on filling the lines and water heater before determining the FW tank is full. Rarely travel point A to B with any FW, but 1/4 tank for pit stops I'd be ok. Top off nearer your destination if water is not an option there.

Luckily I got it out at home with a piece of long bent wire with a hook on the end.

Fill SLOWLY too. I filled a tank too fast once and split the seam.

Good idea TC, i got the Camco and the tubing comes off way to easily. I never considered it could fall down the fresh tank fill. Also glad the hose going into the fresh water tank is about double the diameter of a water hose, pretty much no way of filling too fast unless you are using a fire hose!

Thanks to everyone! All good information. Since this is our first time out in the camper, I’m going to use all the systems. We will rarely use the fresh water tank, because most of the places we go have hookups. But I want to fill it with FW to make sure the tank doesn’t have a leak and make sure the holding straps are secure.

I filled it (about 1/3 full) a few weeks ago just before another trip (canceled) to test the plumbing. So now the system is ready, the HW tank works, the pump is primed and all the faucets work.

Hopefully the rain will hold off, and I can relax and enjoy a few days camping.
