Optima Battery

I have used a few Interstate Marine batteries in the past. Not very impressed. We strictly boondock camp. Anyway question is.. Any experience with the Optima blue or yellow top batteries? Thx all.

I dont use the optima for camping but I have the redtop in my rock-crawler jeep. That thing is a beast, granted they are not as good as they were (optima was bought and outsourced) but I still like the one in my jeep, It has lasted 3 seasons with long winch pulls all day in the dead heat of MOAB, UT.

i seem to remember that many don't recommend Optimas for RV deep cycle applications.
at least for what they cost.

Optima Battery

Not sure if you have room but 2 6v golf cart batteries ran in series would be the way to go as they are better than 2 12v deep cycles.
Last I seen Costco had them for $100 each.

Sams club has Duracell deep cycle batteries that are AGM. I have a large size and love it.

Optimas of any top are poor choices for deep cycle work and offer fewer amp hours size for size than any decent square top deep cycle. Suggest either Trojan or Deka Marine Intimidtor batts if you want to go with AGM's. Nothing wrong with the Sams club ones if you can find them either. Stay away from 6V UNLESS you are gonna hook up 4 of them (no redundancy with 2)....but good choice for 4.

Lots of Kramer's here too.

AGM batteries cost more and weigh more. BUT they also have a 3 year free replacement and have a higher reserve capacity. Johnson Controls make a great AGM battery as well as DEKA. Plus no worries about spillage or acid vapors. They also have a very low self discharge rate compared to lead/acid batteries.

I replaced the battery box with a larger one and bought a group 31 right from the start.

Sears also has them but they are over priced.
