remember it takes time getting into the doing nothing thing. Don't try it all at once , but work into it. Once you get the hang of it , it's not all that bad. Oh and the part where you and the DF will have 24 HOURS a day to really get to know each other. Each and ever 24 HOURS. If you can hold out , she will get a job first. Remember your training. Hang in there.

18.5 years in and I'm heading out...

Thanks for all the advise from all.
Niner domestic works full time at a local university and has for 6 yrs following 21 yrs at a bank for a 12,000$ pension.
I've got opportunity to go corporate security for an electrical corporation. At 53 I'm too old to just sit idle. Have all my toys and a huge garage. Thought I might slow down a bit but.... Neighbours just lost their home to a morning fire so it looks like some community action needs spearheading to help them out.

During service presentations our unit lost over 130 years of combined military police knowledge. Almost overwhelming to witness.

My first cousin retired with 30-years as an MP. He was even Commandant at Leavenworth Prison for four years. It's funny, but he was only 5'9" and I'm 6'1'', but I wouldn't even think of messing with him!

Retired as a Col.

Cool, when was your cousin the Commandant? I may know - I was at the USDB from 91-94.

After I got out(Canadian army) it took almost a year before I got used to civy life. I was lucky and got a job after a couple of months laying around, but it still was hard to get used to a new way of life. Now I have to qualify that I did not retire form the army after a long hitch. I was in for 3 years and young and stupid. I finally lucked out and became a pro Firefighter and after 35 years retired from that job. I have been retired for 12 years now and still miss the job, the adrenalin rush and the guys I worked with. It will take some adjustment but you'll get there no doubt. Stay safe and enjoy your retirement.

Forgot the years, but his name is Larry Berrong. Think it was in the 70's or 80's.

I think they had to move out of the official quarters due to mold allergies!

The basement of the old house was loaded with history......and mold!
