General Question

So I was wondering as a Vet can I use the on base CG? I am not retired from the service, but would like to take advantage of base CG's throughout the Country that we all love and served. If I am able to do this what kind of paperwork do I need to carry with me and are reservations needed or just show up at the gate?

We are new to RV'ing and would like to travel visiting the Military bases.
I Salute you all for your service Past, Present and Future. God Bless America!

Thanks in advance for any information you can give me.

When I checked into this it said that it was only for active or retired.

Yes. Active or fully retired. A DD214 doesn't get you much (dagnabit!) LOL

As long as you have an ID card that gets you on the base you can use the Fam Camps. Active Duty, Retired, 100% DAV.

There is a way around it, if you have a friend who is retired or in the military then you can go with them. All it takes is one ID card. I see it all the time

My DD214 got me a drivers license with 'VETERAN' on it from the great state of SC. And that gets 10% off at Lowes and Advance Auto Parts. Now that is cool. I always ask.

If the CG is not physically located on the base you can sometimes call & talk to the host & they will let you stay (depending on availability). By physically located, I mean you won't have to show an ID card to access the CG.

Ft Dix in NJ (Range 14) & Solomon's Island in MD come to mind.

I'd suggest taking a look on the Military Campgrounds' website to determine which CG's aren't physically located on the adjoining base & call & speak to the host.

Most of the CG's are under utilized & the host may let you stay there.
