Local Home Depot does verify as Ohio adds the stamp to your license in request and with proof.

That was the frustration with Lowe’s that state verification was not good enough and they do their own. Would agree to sign up with them would be ok if I didn’t already have proof on my license.

Actually Home Depot is closer and prefer them anyhow.

In PA license didn’t count at Home Depot when I was home even though on my Ohio license. They wanted a copy of your dd-214.

Either way it is nice of them to do year round whatever us vets can get.

Got to the front and the toatal was about $75 but only saw a $1 discount for military....
I asked if this was a mistake. She said no. Anything on sale you do not get the 10% off now.
This is the first time I saw this. Anyone else want totest your Home Depot Store and buy an item on sale to sdee what happens?
I do not believe Lowes does this.
Maybe its time to go back and use Lowes.
Hello,
I work at Home Depot and we give ALL vets, active or retired, 10% off full priced items.
If an item has a sale promotion going on then you can not add 10% off to the already discounted item

Showed that at Lowe’s in Ohio and they said, no good. Have to bring paperwork to service desk and sign up. Guess the state verification does not count.

Will see what I get on sale item at Home Depot - where the stamp on my license is enough to get the discount.

Easy enough to carry both a copy of my dd214 and my disability letter in my wallet all the time. Rarely do I get past the cashier seeing my VA ID card before they tell me to stop digging in my wallet for the dd214

I actually prefer the way Lowe’s handles it now - a one time setup with customer service, and you scan your My Lowes Card each time and it’s automatic. In my case the barcode is on the phone making it even easier. At our local Depot, you have to ask for the discount each time.

My experience in the Portland, OR metro area (including SW Washington):

Home Depot used to give me the discount every time I requested it. Sometimes had to show proof and sometime not - depended on the clerk. For the past 12-18 months the answer is NO - - only on select days of the year like Veterans Day.

Lowe's has always given me the discount - - every time, every store, no hassle. I just show them a copy of my DD-214 and/or discharge (I carry a small scanned copy of each).

Discount at Lowe's was easy for me

I keep copies of my DD-214 around. I applied for the Lowe's discount to raise my discount from 5% to 10%. The web application said "verification required" so I took a copy of my DD-214 to the store on the next visit. It took less than a minute for the Veteran status to be associated with my MyLowe's card and my Lowe's credit card.

It wasn't a big deal at all. The advantage to sticking with Lowe's is that you can order your items online with eBates for a 2% discount, and pay with the Lowe's card for another 10% and the items are waiting for you at the Customer Service desk when you get there.

(On the other hand, NC also requires a copy of the DD-214 before putting "Veteran" on your driver license. Having it on the driver license was good enough for getting a 15% discount at LKQ.)

Yes it will do it at self checkout and it will also do it when you order online if your signed into the app with your account. . I usually get a email about a special just for military in email. Once was free bag of charcoal, once it was $10.00 off and I have one now $5.00 off any purchase.

Lowes has my business hands down.

They offered it to me but I politely declined as I am not a veteran.

But active or retired does not include ALL vets. If you served 17 years your not considered retired just a vet. So at one time HD did not give to ALL vets except for Veterans Day and 4th of July.

They may have changed their policy because last time I was in I do not go much I asked that I get it at Lowes and clerk said they would give it to me I just needed to show my license showing my vet status. I’m neither active or retired status. Of course that could have been that specific store or clerk

I know a few years ago I have two to three Lowes close by I could only get my discount at one store.

With new system I can get anywhere.

home depot lowes

Yes on most sale items at both stores doesn't give the 10% off. It is what it is...

I’ve had no problem at Lowes after registering on line. They set me a key card and just scan that a checkout. No hassels, so thanks Lowes!

And this why I no longer will shop at HD to me a vet is a vet no matter if you retired from service or not. Later RJD

If I only shopped at places that did not "offend" someone I'd have no where the go.... Or eat, or get gas or relax by the pool.

I have the My Loews card. I was resistant, at first, because I am retired military and figured my ID should be sufficient. However, the system works very well, and as someone else pointed out, they can track your purchases, which greatly simplifies refunds when you return an item. Lowes here has also honored the discount on sale items, even those with substantial value. Thank you Lowes!

It's been that way for about 5 years where I am with HD, no discount. Lowe's give a 10% discount and I had to sign up with My Lowes which took about a minute on line.

I didn't know that HD offered a discount. Next time I am there I will have to ask for it. I signed up for the military discount at Lowes. Just showed the clerk at the service desk my VA card. Now every time I checkout I tell them my phone number and I get my 10% off. Don't think I have tried it on sale items yet.

I'm very okay with Lowes doing there own verification. Google "stolen valor". There are guys out there with veteran plates, purple heart plates, and Silver star plates. They are state issued falsely. I'm not offended one bit, I'm glad they are trying to weed out the fakes.
