AZFrank,
Check out the local Good Sam chapters.
We joined a chapter here in Roanoke, VA and have a ball. We camp 9 months out of the year and have a ball. We don't know if we are a camping club with an eating and drinking problem or an eating and drinking club with a camping problem.

Was wearing a "humor" T-shirt yesterday ( shirt said "I may not have a PhD, but I do have a DD-214" ). I'm in a checkout line at a store, and a guy ahead of me comments he likes the shirt & asks which branch. Told him Army & said most people don't even know what a DD-214 is. Turns out he was 30 years Marines retired. As he's leaving, he thanks me for my service. He does 30 years & thanks me! I returned that thank you. That was the 1st time I'd been thanked for service to my face. Was a tad embarrassed, but it felt pretty good.

It is nice to hear. Every time I go to Home Depot I show them the military stamp on my drivers license. Besides the 10% discount always followed with a "thank you for your service"

I just say "you are quite welcome" these days when said.

I usually wear an "Air Force Veteran" sweatshirt and/or ball cap when I'm out and about. I've been surprised many times by people stopping and thanking me for my service. My response is "thank you for your support". If it's a fellow vet then I always thank them for their service.

A Big Thank You

I have been thanked by many and told "Welcome Home" by Viet Vets, that's what feels great. When thanked I always say "It was my Pleasure". And to all our vets out there God Bless, you gave what many ignored.

I like that reply. I'll have to remember that.

Retired Army, over 25 years ago. Ancient history.

More importantly, a salute to those that are not with us today.

When I was a kid, when I heard anything about Vets, I thought they were talking about Veterinarians.

I was at Taegu, ROK from Aug 88-Apr 89 when they deactivated the F-4 unit. Thankfully I had a shredout that kept me from being extended to bring in the next fighter unit. While I miss many of the people, I have no desire to step foot in Korea again.

This goes out to All Hands ~ so please bear with me for a few seconds.
Now that Memorial Day 2017 is done, The Run to the Wall has been accomplished again, major plans, events & parades have taken place and summer has officially started (for some areas of the country) ~ it seems as though we have made it thru again. Some of us made through with friends & family with/around us, some of us just made it. Take the time to reach out to the Vets you know, whether you just know them or REALLY know them ~ just do that old fashion 'Buddy Check'.
This past weekend brings back way too many memories for some and it's up to us, the Veterans, to keep those memories, good or bad and worry about each other.

Ask a Vet how he's doing ~ he'll tell you he's great. Ask his spouse or a true friend how he's doing and you'll really find out.
The same goes for our Lady Vets, just different wording.

Thank you for your time and I send a salute to each and everyone, Slow Salute to my ancestors and all who have gone before me.
