I served in the Air Force from January 1973 through August 1975 and got an early out when ADC had to downsize after the wind down of Vietnam. I was a Ground Radio Repairman and Data Link Computer Repairman at the 786th Radar Squadron at Minot AFS but worked at the GATR site located at Minot AFB which was the SAC base. We were the ground support for radio and data link with Norad for the F106 fighter interceptors.

I was USN from 1990 thru 1996. Went on two WESTPACs (western pacific deployment) to the Persian Gulf: once in 1991 and once in 1993. Went to Scott AFB in 1993 and was honorably discharged in 1996.

I don't regret leaving, however I do miss it sometimes and wish I embraced it more when I was in. Definitely wish I did more sight-seeing (and less partying) when I pulled into port.

I was a DP (Data Processing Technician)... which I think was phased-out/merged with Fire Controlmen, Radioman or something like that. I just know the rating is long gone.

325BH -
DP merged with RM and they became IT
My son decided to follow me into the Navy and listened to his old man.
He studied and did great on the ASVAB and ran from nuke power and stayed out of my engineroom. He went IT and is now an IT1 and loving life.

I did the Persian Excursion in 1988 - Shot at and missed and pooped at and hit.
Then did my last deployment in Kuwait 2005/2006.
I'd do it all again in a heartbeat.

Thanks for what you did.

Welcome aboard. looks like you have a lot of posts already. What kind of RVing do you do? I was in Ops back in the 60's on two ships (DD & APB), but later ended up in the Medical Service Corps. Long story, hard to make short! Retired in 1996.
