Military brat all my life until I was drafted into the US Army 1970. I served overseas duty in (then) Ethiopia, served 3 years in the Army Security Agency. My father just passed last year at age 93, started as Army Air Corps, then Air Force, then Army. 3 war vet, Korea, WWII, and Vietnam. Older brother was US Army, went to Vietnam and caught cancer from the chemicals he was handling. He passed about 10 years ago.

So you and I were on base at the same time. I started out in a high level think tank .. a group of scientists .. associated with the Weapons Lab, but moved over to the 1550th when they relocated down from Hill AFB UT. Went from there to another Rescue unit at Fairchild .. supported the Survival School .. was there from Jan 79 to Sep 81. Then to Ramstein for three years .. loved Albuquerque, so convinced the AF to send us back there after Germany. Six more years at Kirtland, but this time lived off-base west of the river.

Got a reply from the Tech Service Dept and told that my GPS antenna needed to be replaced. Cost will be $38 for the part and that's cheaper than my having to drive to Houston!! Ha Ha!

USAF 15 years, Let go in 1992 due to Cold War Draw Down in Forces. I worked as a Boeing 747 Crew Chief at Offutt AFB, NE and later as a USAF Historian due to my disability. I'm now 100% VA Disabled. So I'm enjoying my time camping in Illinois and surrounding states! My Service Dog is my constant companion as well as all the people I meet at campgrounds and a group called Loners on Wheels (National organization). Being a Veteran and flying a flag proundly on my camper allows instant comradery with other Vets. Thank you!!!

06 to 08 with E-2C Hawkeyes. Lived in Camarillo, wish we could've stayed, but who can afford Cali.

BTW, lived in Bartlett during teens, went to Elgin High.

Safe and happy travels.

I think the helo's were gone by then. I never see any on Google maps. When I was there, no one flew unless we had a SAR bird ready. Don't know what they do now.

Where did you deploy for Desert Shield/Desert Storm? I went to Riyadh for a few months just before the shock and awe and then went out east to Bahrain for that. After Iraq pulled out of Kuwait, we had to bring our linguists up to Iraq to help with the EPWs because there were so many. (Many fires were set in the oilfields so wasn't a fun trip at all)
