Was that at Lowry? IIRC the PMEL school was there before it was closed...
How long was it?

It was at Lowry. 33 weeks as I remember (1232 hrs). I think B1B Nav was 52 weeks. Fun times!

When were you there? I was in tech school there from 03/85 - 12/85. IIRC our little group shared the PMEL dorms.

I met so many people from other branches and other countries through my career choice. I was sad to see the military transition the job function out to Raytheon contracts. But it did transition well!

My AF tech school was 6 months long at Chanute AFB, Il. Then 3 more months at my first base (Grand Forks AFB, ND).
Thanks to all for serving in our military and keeping us free.

I'm guessing you were in not too long after me (1960-1964). My time at Lackland was only 5 weeks and it was called "First Phase". I then went to Amarilo AFB for aircraft mechanics tech school and completed "Second Phase" there also.
From there I had my first PCS at Dyess AFB. I only was in basic training for about 3 months total which included the Second Phase time. I was assigned to SAC during the Cold War and we were told SAC was in need of more aircraft mechanics,so that was the reason for the short basic training.
I don't think they do that anymore.

Started out as 64C (now 88M), CO's driver/company clerk at first duty station in Germany, then went to Ft. Campbell and hauled jet fuel. Re-enlisted for 71E and went back to Germany.

USAF Communications Computer Systems Operator (1992-96). AFSC was 491x1 when I enlisted, then changed to 3C0x1 halfway through my time.

Heh...my original AFSC was 207X1. After my first assignment, I cross-trained into 291X1, which became your 491X1, and finally a 3C0X1. But I actually only did 2 years in that AFSC. I went back to 207X1, which became 1N2X1, and I'm not sure if it is still that. But all that changing, all in the last 9 years I did in the AF, was enough to do me in. I could not (would not) keep up with all the constant changing, so I retired in 2000.

Misawa, Offutt (as a 291), Eielson, Offutt, Ft. Meade, Kunia, Medina/Kelly. As a 291 at Offutt the first time, I worked in the National Emergency Airborne Command Post Comm Center. That was all I did as a comm guy.

I worked the data processing side in Korea, then the comm center my first year in Charleston, then they cross-trained me in local area networks and computer repair.
