The F-14 was being wrung out at the Naval Missile Center at Pt Mugu while I was there. Kept in closed hangers at all times. The first sucessful "six on six" (firing 6 Phoenix missiles simultaneously at 6 separate targets) was completed while I was there (We all got a letter of commendation for it, dated May 24, 1974). That's 42 yrs ago - hard to believe the Tomcats are are history now. Where does the time go?

Here's a pic of our F-4 Phantoms.
Black - VX-4
Camo blue - VX-4???
Blue - Unknown (Naval Missile Center???)
Orange - Naval Missile Center drone

USMC 66-70

MCASEl Toro, MCAF Santa Anna, Marble Mountain Air Facility RVN, MCAS Funtema Okinawa, USS Okinawa, LPH-3, Subic Bay/Cuba Point NAS PI.

MOS: 6314, 6331, 6331. Crew chief CH-46 helo's HMM-164. Also worked on R4D, R4Q, TA-4F and CH-53's.

Lots of experiences packed into 4 years but typical MC SNAFU: train you to do something then assign you to something you know nothing about.

Loved (amost) every minute of it.
