59 pages ! Got to wondering how many of the old posters are still with us.

Found one AF missile mechanic!

Born in Texas, brought up in SAC, then I joined. My folks said LaMay was my godfather! Caddied for the original Col. Paul Tibits as a kid.

Dad was a flight engineer on B24, B17, B29, B50' & KC97's...in lots of places.

I had a SN ! Lackland, Wichita Falls as a ....
Atlas D Pneudraulics Repairman, at Offutt.
Atlas D Pneudraulice Repairman, Vandenberg.
Minuteman Pneudraulics Repairman, Ellsworth.
Changed to Aircraft Scheduler at Chanute
Out of SAC, into MAC.
Scheduler at Clark.
Changed to Aircraft Analysist at Clark
Transferred to Weather Wing, sent some of the last few B47’s (WB47) to the grave yard, think it was 69-70.
8yr, 5mo, 27da but wanted to have a new experience...civilian life.

Texas Army Nat Guard 3+yrs, didn't realize an egg could be screwed up by cooking in an Army Mess. Moved Overseas with my company and the schedules just wouldn't work so I became a full time civilian!

I broke tradition from my father and uncles who were US Navy. I learned early on that getting seasick wasn't a pleasant experience but I have flown "nap-of-the-earth" in many different Air Force high performance aircraft and not gotten sick when even the flight crew was vomiting. Go figure.

Vietnam combat veteran (FSB Crossed Sabers, FSB Spudis, FSB Grunt II and the "An Loc for lunch bunch" during the Easter Offensive) and Operation Just Cause in Panama (we captured General Noreiga) veteran. I retired as a 18Z5F1, US Army Special Forces Sergeant Major.

I have the Combat Engineer MOS (12B), Artillery (13B) and Special Forces Operations and Intelligence Sergeant (F1) skill identifier, as well as Master Parachutist.

My father served aboard the USS Nicholas, DDE 449. He was in a destroyer squadron in Pearl Harbor with the USS O'Bannon, the USS Renshaw, the USS Radford (I think) and a couple of others.

If your post is in reply to somebody that entered the US Army in 1972, the Army started using SSNs before that year.

I went into the Navy in Dec 1970, reported to boot camp and got a serial number. One month later (still in boot camp), on Jan 1, 1971, we went to SSN's. But all my uniforms were still stenciled with my serial number. I can't remember peoples names that I've known for years, but I still remember my serial number that I used for a month - go figure!

I can't remember a name 15 seconds after I've heard it. If everybody had a number, I'd be good. I remember the addresses I lived at in Hawaii when I was a pre-teen (and my wife and I went there a couple of months ago in time to find the last one -- the excavators were literally around the corner). I remember the license plate of my first car ... BUT .... who did you say you are?

I was drafted right out of high school and started my career heading into the Infantry bound for Vietnam. Shortly after Basic and prior to AIT I had an opportunity to transfer to 27C Land Combat/Short Range Air Defense Missile Maintenance Repair. Six years later I was selected into the US Army Warrant Officer Program as a 271A Land Combat Missile Maintenance Technician, and 14 years later retired as a CW3 and the 3rd senior Warrant in my MOS.

How about a Canadian getting in on this?

RCAF, Flight Engineer, Search and Rescue:

Rank: Master Warrant Officer. I'm not sure where that falls out in US military speak, but we only have one NCM rank above MWO in the RCAF (I'll guess our MWO is an E-8 in the US?).

I started as an airframe technician, which turned into AVN technician, then re-mustered to Flight Engineer.

Many think we're always in Garrison, but our mission covers from where Maine ends to the North Pole and from as far west as Quebec City to as far out into the Atlantic as we can carry gas for, often as far as 400 miles out. You want to feel small? Be 400 miles out to sea in a chopper with only one option for gas to make it back...

I'd like to say search and rescue is all saving people and alleviating suffering, but it has a lot of low moments and you see (and do) a lot of things no one should ever have to experience.

I've also watched good men give thier lives in this service, all good freinds. Nuff said about that.

I don't regret my service, but there are some scars I will carry forever, inside and out. There's also moments I will always look back on with pride and good memories. I just wish the scales were more balanced to the good.....

I've also been all over the world on exchange trips and training. The cormorant (EH101) training was 4 months in England and Italy. I miss summer in Italy.... definitely one of the good moments

28 years, still serving. Was supposed to be out by now since I'm too broken to fly anymore, but was asked to stay on a few more years to "help my trade" out of a bind in an administrative role (ie: running a section in my current sqn). I agreed, as I feel the loyalty to my trade and my men. It's not a bad go, but I'm chained to a desk now.....someone's gotta do it.

I'll close out with our two governing mottos:

"ad Vigilamus Undis" / "We Watch the Waves"

"That Others May Live"

Retirement in 2019 though, can't wait.

Joined the US Army at 17 years old on October 1984 was sent home due to injuries Jan 2002 was truly the best 18 years of my life, no regrets.

Primary MOS, changed over the years. I went from 11B to 11B1V, then 18D

In our world the term "Doc" doesnt come from a fancy degree. I'm a combat medic... I will always come for you.

Not on the ID Card anymore. It's a DoD Number. And there is a benefits number.

I started out as an Air Force 902x0 Medic in 1967, and in 1969, I was sent to Greece as an IDMT. Following that tour, in 1972, I was selected to retrain into the 902X2B Urological/Surgical career field while stationed at Kirtland, AFB in New Mexico and for the next 10 years that was my job. In 1982, as an E-7, I was assigned duty as the Superintendent of Hospital Services at Eglin AFB, FL. In 1985, I was assigned to RAF Lakenheath, as the Supt. of the 48th TAC Air Transportable Hospital, 90299. In 1987, I was selected for promotion to E-9, Chief Master Sergeant, and was assigned to special duty as Senior Enlisted Advisor, (Command Chief Master Sergeant) at Ramstein, West Germany. I Retired in 1992, and taught AFJROTC for the Air Force from 1994 until 2013 in South Bend, Indiana.

I'm currently on my fourth RV, a Palomino PUMA31DBTS.
