New TRICARE Dental and Optic

Any thoughts on the Dental and Optic program? Since we are being moved over to the Federal Program I was wondering what folks thought of the Federal?
Thanks

I looked and it didn’t seem cost effective for me

I used the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP) as a federal employee for many years (dental only) but eventually dropped it as not being cost effective. With the premium and cost-sharing structure, I was basically paying FEDVIP to pay my family's dental bills that I otherwise would have just paid myself. In most years, I probably would have saved by paying the dentist on my own.

As an alternative, I found a dentist with a good reputation and a reasonable cost structure. I use him when I need him (it's only been annual check ups and cleanings lately) and don't feel I need to carry insurance for that.

Bottom line, I'm also eligible for the military retiree FEDVIP but do not plan to buy it.

I was going to start a thread on this but see there is already one. Anyway looking at these plans and obviously they are not cheap. Hopefully looking for someone who is very knowledgeable and can provide their expert opinion on best value. In my situation it is just wife and myself.

I had to go to Aetna Vision. I still use Delta Dental but under another backer.

We are also cash-flow dental or pay as we go, dental & vision. Plans were just too expensive five years ago when we looked. Cleanings and the occasional filling costs are about the same annually as the insurance. Just my 2-cents.

A couple years ago, my daughter told me to call Humana Dental and ask for the plan for Military Veterans. We pay 46.98 per month, for coverage for DW and myself.

Few things are "cheap" today, but I recently enrolled in the new plan, Dental only. For wife and I, affordable, especially since we both have been needing root canals, etc past two years. As we age, need more ! Each to their own.
