Recently Retired

As of yesterday! Just finished up a 22 year career mixed with 7 of active and the rest in the guard. Spent last week upon Northern AZ celebrating with friends and family. Had a great time.

Doesn't it feel good being retired? I'll never forget my last drive out of the base in my uniform. I had an overwhelming urge to pull over and sling my uniform over the gate of the flightline. I don't regret any of my time in the Air Force, but when the time came, it was time to go.

What did you do while you were in? Congratulations, and hey...have as steak on me! That middle picture looks awesome!!

Thank you! For the first few years of Active Duty I was a Crew Chief. Crosstrained into Firefighter after that and stayed in that AFSC for the rest of my Active Duty and Guard Career. Unfortunately I still have the day job for a while but the family is pretty happy about no more deployments!

That picture there was a mixture of home raised beef, buffalo, and elk! Quite the assortment and it was might tasty. Had a total of 40 people show up to camp this trip.

Congratulations on your retirement! I also did active duty and ANG time to get my military retirement. I was PMEL while on active duty for 10 years then C-130 avionics for the other 10.5 years in the Alaska Air Guard. I stated collecting that retirement 5 years ago. I also did 28 years of civil service in PMEL to get my civilian retirement.

I wonder if our paths ever crossed. I was at Kulis ANGB from 1986 to 2007. I was a loadmaster in the 144th.

I’m sure they did. I was there from November 1984 until March 1995. I went on 3 Panama rotations. Remember the animal house?

I stayed away from things like that by that stage of my life. I did do three or four Panama Rotations and did enjoy them. Especially the trips down country. I also started collecting my Guard retirement five years ago this month. It sure makes a nice healthy contribution to my retired life.

I had 22 years combined in the Army and Guard and the retirement money helped out but the biggest thing was the insurance. TriCare for Life is great. Enjoy your retirement

Staying away from the animal house wasn't an option for maintenance enlisted. That was or assigned accommodations. It was entertaining to be kind and scary at times. I did enjoy every rotation. I agree, trips down country was one of the best parts of the trips. I saw way more places in my 10 1/2 years of ANG time than my 10 years of active duty.
