Short Stay, Monck's Corner, South Carolina

Anybody stayed there? What is the facility like and how hard is it to get reservations there? We haven't been to the Charleston area since stationed there in 1987 and considering going back for a visit this coming spring. Also, how long are the 50 amp RV sites at Short Stay, we have a Sierra 371REBH and it is almost 42 feet.

Any info would be much appreciated!

They have a website, you just have to dig for it thru the MWR stuff. I haven't stayed there, but it's on the list!

Thanks Phil, I looked at the site earlier, but description was lacking. You know way back when, I was stationed on the John C. Calhoun with a Phil G., seeing your name pop up made me think of that.

You may want to consider James island county park. You will have to put your name on a waiting list for December. Very good campground and within minutes of downtown. They also have a shuttle to downtown if you don't want to drive.

Short Stay

My son is retired Air Force from Charleston. He and his military buddies stay there all the time. We have stayed there with him also. It is on Lake Moultrie which has a beach and boating. Not all sites are full hook up, but they are upgrading every year and they have a dump station. Don't know sizes of all sites but have seen 45' Class A's down to tent sites. They also have small cabins. I believe all military is eligible, active, retired, etc. Holidays need to be booked well in advance. It is a very nice park especially for the price, I think around $25.00 to $30.00 depending on hook-up.

We stayed there last year. Not bad if you're lucky enough to get a lakeside site but, if there's been any rain recently, a lot of the park will be very wet.

When we visited Charleston last fall we stayed at Foster Creek (military famcamp) a bit out from Charleston but worked out great and has 50amp FHU sites.

SCTravler, I was on the Calhoun from Nov 82 until Nov 87 as a First Class in M-Div.

No3putt, I like the idea of Foster Creek since Goose Creek is much closer to Charleston than Monck's Corner, was at the Weapons Station there prior to overhaul at Charleston back when they still handled boats there.

I believe I was there for that one, that was the last patrol I made on the boat, I left when we pulled into Port Canaveral at the end of patrol to head over to Orlando looking for housing and then went back to Charleston to check out of the command.
