It is NOT a rank in the U.S. Air Force.
War stories, helmets on....many years ago as a Corporal in a Canadian Infantry Battalion, I and a buddy were tasked to escort the Regimental Pipes and Drums to a show at the Canadian Embassy in Washington. Fast forward to the point, my buddy and I were lodged in quarters in Fort Myer and were heading to the Ranks Mess for lunch. Lady at the counter needed a name and rank on a register to get in. Not being from the US services I put "Cpl", later learning I was in the wrong mess, she says no no you have to be an "E something". So I say to myself, buddy in front of me was an E9, so for this lunch hour I am an E9 too. Lunch was great and it should have been as I learned later from the Drum Major that the Canadian equalivient to E9 is Chief Warrant Officer, top rank in the "Enlisted side" of the house. Whoops...

Army. '88-92 19k10 Armor Crewman. M1A1 main battle tank. Got to watch the Berlin wall come down in Germany during the cold war and got to chew on some sand for the first Persian Gulf. Best job I ever had.

Air Force 69-73. 1st overseas tour was Wheelus AFB in Tripoli Libya. Was there when Quaddafi(?) overthrew the King...and kicked us out of Libya. 3rd Mob out of Tinker AFB, hit hot spots when needed. Then Tan Son Nhut and other must see locations in Nam! Finally, the 89th at Andrews AFB...Air Force 1 parked outside out Ops Center...Nixon was President. All in all, 4 years and all the trials and tribulations...I believe set my course in life. No regrets.
