I still have my draft card but the conflict was winding down in 1972 when I was 18. The birthday lottery was going on then too.
I almost enlisted but I had a good job and was going to school so I backed out.
I ended up doing 34 years as a domestic warrior.
My son is an E6 in the Air Force.
Thanks for your service to all who contributed and sacrificed.

Always have to report to duty when you see a good spot to put your orders in for. I have had 4 RV's this is my 1st popup as the HOA I am in was busting my balls with my Axle Flipped Keystone Hideout. I have had two keystones, and a Wilderness before the HW277

Do you remember the scene from NO TIME FOR SERGEANTS...Well, I was an Airman, and proud of it. Member of the USAF Presidential Honor Guard, stationed at Bolling from 1975-78...Used to tell the Army Guard members that I could have been in the Army; but I passed the test
Welcome. Looks like you reported to DC USAF the same year I retired from 1st enlisting in 1954. My 21 got me to a few garden spots and to E7. We are "stay-putters" about 90 miles west of you. Spent 2 years at Barksdale and met my DW there in '56.

I won the birthday lottery the first year they had it. Yup, #1. Went down to the local National Guard Armory and they swore me in the next day.

I served in the Navy from 1965-1987. Started as a BT then got smart and switched to SF(P). everything from Tin Cans to Mine Sweeps to Gators. With a "couple "Nam tours also. Best days of my life, especially serving on same ship as my Dad, from 1965-1967. We had one H*** of a time in the Med and North Atlantic. Thanks to all of you who served, and especially to those of you who had the courtesy of thanking us for serving.

Another Air Force Guy Here

Got a damn draft notice in 1969 and quickly found an AF Recruiter. Call me sissy if you want but I had no interest in being shot at. God bless those of you who were willing to take that risk. Thought I would do my four years and get out, but liked it and stayed around for twenty. Started as a 291 (Comm Ctr), then 242 (Disaster Preparedness), then 3 years at Lackland as an MTI followed by 8 years in recruiting. Retired as a SMSgt. Zero regrets - would do it again and recommend military service to a lot of young people. Now retired again from a career in health care and loving life. Looking forward to our first year of camping!

LOL. Does anybody??? Throughout my career as a LEO, I used to train at firefighting facilities, rappelling from towers, etc. The firefighters thought were were crazy. I was an operator. I told them I'd much rather be shot at than burned, or run into a burning building.
