Fall of 1978 through fall of 1979. Just two patrols. Previous sub, Stonewall Jackson, went into shipyard overhaul in Portsmouth NH, and I refused to extend my enlistment with an open ended contract of two patrols after overhaul (which were notorious for NEVER ending as scheduled). Plus my Leading Petty Officer was a lousy boss and an alcoholic. If it wasnt for the excellent Division CPO I had on the Kamehmeha, I would never have stayed in the Navy.

I was on her 71 to 74. Took her through refit in Groton (EB) in 72.

Six subs out of Pearl Harbor: Queenfish, 651 (Decomm crew); Tunny, 682; Helena, 725; Topeka, 754; Chicago, 721; Los Angles, 688. Two shore duties, Subbase Pearl Harbor and Pearl Harbor Shipyard. Started as an Interior Communications Tech, converted to Electronic Tech (Navigation).
