It was nice to see you escaped Groton. I could not get away from there until I retired. The FT detailer kept telling me I could choose something, sea or shore duty in Groton. I still have those guys on my people to target list. Thanks to you for all you did.

I was in FTG school Groton - Mark 18 Angle Solver in spring of '68 and the start of my 6 year commitment. Sub school followed and then received orders to SS-324 (Diesel) in Groton. I so much wanted a Nuclear Sub. After 3 months aboard I surfaced /submerged numbers of times for training of midshipmen, I experienced (emergency) "blow negative" tanks twice, rode out a hurricane above surface including a "Collision" alert, hot bunked, never showered aboard, never worked on my equipment, never was informed about working on my Dolphins, I only mess cooked. I love the crew but when I confronted the XO about leaving he didn't blame me for wanting off. My wanting a Navy career was over and I spent the rest of my time aboard a Cruiser working on Talos radar for 2 years (but FTG's were more critical) then switched to working on 5" 38 Guns. I was so pleased to be Honorably discharged as a FTG3 with a good conduct award, Thank God !

Fellow submariner
Hi guys I retired in 2014.
USS Pintado (SSN 672)
USS City of Corpus Christi (SSN 705)
USS Ohio (SSGN 726)(B)
USS Connecticut (SSN 22)
USS Springfield (SSN 761)
Nice to see everyone. This RV thing is kinda like managing the boat everyday. It came natural to manage power, water, poop, rigging to go underway and moored, and stowing for sea.

At least we do not have to blow sanitary tank! Nothing coming back at you if you make a small mistake....

Submarine Veterans
Hi all.
ET1(SS) Nuke Reactor Operator
USS Billfish SSN 676 Groton CT 1979 to 1984 including year and a half overhaul in Kittery.
S3G Staff Training Group Lead Reactor Operator Ballston Spa NY 1984 to 1987.
USS Providence SSN 719 Groton CT 1987 to 1989.
Few Med runs over the years and a trip north of the Arctic Circle. Never up thru the ice though and wish we had just to have done it.
Very first run out sleeping next to a torpedo when the O2 generator blew - instant “what the hell am I doing here” thoughts [emoji3]
Screw marks topside from someone we got too close to and in Maneuvering when that happened - interesting sound.
Losing depth control and hearing the blow into the ballast tanks then watching the depth gauge in Maneuvering start going back down.
Do remember a couple times having my hand on the flush valve and remembered they were blowing sannies.
They are all fond memories now but more of those than I care to remember.
Fun times though!

Hey guys, saw here that several of you served on the Franklin. My dad was CO of the Franklin (not sure which crew) in the mid to late 70's. Wonder if any of you knew him. CDR Robert Dunkle Sr.
