Tire For Veterans

This is a new one on me.
Veterans Canteen Service (VCS)
I was aware of this. They have a presence at most VA Hospitals. I thought all they sold was baseball caps and such

Tires too! A very convoluted process. I of course was on hold for 45 minutes. I will provide links and phone numbers below. Here is the big deal. The tires are provided by your local dealer. NO TAXES on the tires!
My local tax would be $61.12 for 4 tires.
You pay the local dealer for mounting $16.00/tire? installation per tire, plus tax. Not sure about any road hazard $ or balancing if included in mounting?
Still performing my due diligence

Here is the size I need and price.
GoodYear Endurance ST225/75R15 BSW N 117 E 8 724857519 697662130499 $105.99
I have not been able to see a better deal. The one caveat is the "sales and discounts" they always have from GoodYear. From $75 rebate to $150 if paid by Goodyear CC. Not sure if you would be eligible for that. Would be a great deal then!

Anyway, For what its worth.
Good Luck!

The Veteran’s Canteen is considered one of the Exchange services. Others include:

Navy Exchange
Marine Corps Exchange
Coast Guard Exchange
Army and Air Force Exchange Service

All sell products at a discount. None charge sales tax. Of the four mentioned above, at least one (AAFES) sells tires. Discounts. No sales tax.

A recent change to the law allows all honorably discharged veterans to shop online at exchange stores. AAFES site is shopmyexchange.com.

Oh, and the Star Card is an amazing deal. Currently AAFES is offering 15% off on first-day purchases. That deal expires 10/22. Current interest rate is 10.24% with 2% cash back. Lots of no-payment, no-interest deals. Friendly rules regarding the charging of interest.

On edit: Tire purchases over $199 from AAFES with a Star Card are currently 6 months, no-payment, no-interest.

Another benefit that all of us vets with a service connected disability have, is access to MWR facilities (campgrounds/famcamps) on or connected to military bases. You used to have to be 100% disabled (if you weren't active duty or retired). That's my understanding anyway.

My post above addressed benefits for all veterans—which includes only online Exchange benefits. Thank you for mentioning service-connected veterans!

Veterans with a service-connected disability (even rated at 0%) have on-base access to Exchange and commissary facilities (as well as some retail MWR facilities). Just get your VHIC ID from the VA and register on base or on post.

BTW, Star Cards are now usable at commissaries and some retail MWR facilities. Remember, every time you use it at an AAFES facility, you are making a small contribution to MWR for the troops.

Roger that!
The VCS appears to be run by the VA. Out of the St Louis facility. Not a regular exchange branch. Any way the tire deal is the best deal I have seen on any of the exchanges for anything.

Thank you all for your Service

Thanks for this highlight. Have any service-connected veterans used this new benefit? I have my VHIC card although older than the version I see in this article.

Just wondering if there were any issues with campground managers not aware of this change?
