Veterans and Exchange Usage

US Veterans Exchange usage will soon be available. You need to verify first though. Here is the site for all U. S. Veterans

Just prepare to be underwhelmed, by the pricing. If the item costs enough, you will save the tax and that is about it. Amazon is still cheaper in many cases.

It's a nice benefit. I've actually had access for several months now. I had done the Vet-Verify in the late spring when they put it up and a couple weeks later they emailed me and gave me early access as a pilot program.

As Madmaxmutt said, the regular prices are more than I expected. However, we bought quite a few items that were on sale/clearance and the prices were very good. significantly cheaper than Amazon for lots of them and I checked.

They also tend to run clearance and special sales all the time, so there are good deals to be had.

https://www.shopmyexchange.com/veterans

I have no idea why aafes changed their website, but www.aafes.com goes directly to shopmyexchange.com

It really depends on the product. And the promotion.

For example, on shopmyexchange.com, today and tomorrow, they are giving an extra 30% off on most clearance prices. Some .22LR ammo, normally 8.99 for 100, is clearanced for 4.97. 30% off makes it less than $3.50 or less than 3.5 cents per round!

Vets should ignore the negativity and check it out. They will find some really good deals. This is a spectacular benefit.

Full disclosure: I sell guns for the Exchange.

I can. I work for AAFES. The Vet Verify site has to make sure that only Vets get through.

They are getting away from the AAFES brand name. It is still technically their “corporate” name, but the stores are now known by the simpler and more identifiable “Exchange”. I’d bet that exchange.com was already taken.

The Exchange sent me an email with the link. I was already verified a long time ago.
When AAFES and NAVEX combined they did the renaming if I recall correctly.

The Navy Exchange is a separate entity.

I too, think vets should check it out.

I do wish the exchange saved active duty service members money on everyday items like laundry soap and diapers, instead of high dollar items. Sadly, the exchange seems much more like a for profit business, these days than in the past.

If you can get it at the Commissary, you will almost always do better.

Try Exchange Select products. They are quite a value.

Also, Exchange-branded clothing are high-quality and low, low price.

I agree, I live close to the Ft Bragg Exchange, but seldom shop there! I'll check the price if I'm looking for a high price item, but usually buy online thru Walmart or Amazon, even with the tax savings at the exchange.

The Exchange does do price matching instore. BUT you can't match against Amazon or eBay, not sure if they will match Walmart Internet prices but probably not.

deleted.

EDIT: I might stand corrected here. Here is the entire policy, good Lord TLDR!

I work for the Exchange. I know the policy. Our online store, shopmyexchange.com, matches prices for other online retailers.

Hence, my edit above. To be clear, several of the categories you listed earlier in the thread are specifically excluded.

"Exceptions include refurbished items, used items, auctioned items, fine jewelry, closeouts, clearance, special orders and Exchange Online Mall concession sites."

AAFES has also been known to have issues matching time limited sales like "black friday" and "doorbusters".

Veterans and Exchange Usage

They don’t “have issues”. They just don’t match “door busters”. With good reason—if you think about it.

What did I “list” that was excluded?

________________

Bottom line, if we ignore the back-and-forth that resulted from someone having “issues” with the Exchange, is that beginning on Veteran’s Day, vets can shop at the Exchange’s online store, shopmyexchange.com.

Prices are generally markedly lower than at other retailers.

You don’t pay sales or use taxes. (Technically, in most States, even when you don’t pay sales taxes online, you are still required to pay use tax on your State return. Not so on purchases from the Exchange.)

On the same item, new, they match other online retailers—with some reasonable exclusions.

Exchange in-house brands have remarkable quality for the price—especially clothing.

The Exchange online store runs some amazing specials. Today, you can get an additional 30% off most clearance prices!

Free shipping on purchases over $50 or if you use the Star Card.

The Star Card is one of the friendliest no-fee, rewards cards there is. Check to see if you qualify.

Visit VetVerify.org to start the process and check your eligibility.

Oh, and all profits go to the soldiers and airmen through MWR and Services programs. There are no “owners” being made rich by your patronage.

Thanks for serving.
