We had to have all that memorized. Heaven help you if you were quizzed and didn't answer correctly. Geeze, that brings back memories. I think one of them was "To walk my post in a military manner, keeping always on the alert, and...." (This is about where I would be in trouble, trying to remember something from 40 years ago, lol)

In the Army, if I was told to secure a building, I'd post a guard on it. The Navy would unplug the coffee pot and make sure the lights are off, while in the Air Force it means getting a 3 year lease with an option to buy.

You forgot that the Marines would assault the building and hold it until the army relieved them to garrison it.

Got the air guns in both arms at the MEPS station in Portland Maine in 1984. Had guys fainting, guys with gashes in arms, all while in just our underwear in room that was cold and sterile. Assembly line.

We were not allowed to talk in any training situation. Only when spoken to by a DI.
And we did not dress. We wore a UNIFORM.
Of course that was the Army. Air Force probably was walk, talk and dress.

Oh, you guys are tough, tough man. But yeah, we Zoomies did have it pretty rough in our Barcaloungers, while we the Marines went in and cleaned house, then the Army grunts came in and mopped up.
I remember well the yellow shot records. Heck, I could probably pull a couple out somewhere around the house. While I was airborne, we had to have our shot records with us every time we flew. They were part of our checklist items. Oh, the memories.

How do you think that would work in the civilian world. I have startling visuals of a bunch of "seniors" lined up in their underwear in line at a Walmart pharmacy

Lot of things that happened years ago would not happen in this day in age.

Oh yes, we had to memorize General Orders and the Code of Conduct as well. Carrying the card, and the other things, was an exercise in "attention to detail".

First series was 3 shots with air guns. 1st shot stung pretty bad. I was thinking Crap, two more? Took a step forward when the line moved and the next medic pulled me to the side. He put a strip of gauze in my hand and told me put pressure on the injection site. I had blood dripping off my elbow. I was last in line for our flight, so the TI is standing there tapping his foot. Two minutes later I get the next two shots in the same arm.
Pity is in the dictionary between party and poop.

One of the medis did not have the air gum pressed tight on me. I had a pretty good blood stream running down my arm. Drill sargeant gave 50 for bleeding on my records.

January 1971. I stood up and got the air gun and wasn't bothered--except for one time. Not sure why, but I was thinking about it and blood pressure dropped and I was sure I was going to go down, but the tech noticed it. He moved the gun away and asked me where I was from, was I married, how long, and a couple of other questions, and got me relaxed. Then he used the gun and I had no problems. Still grateful for that guy. Pretty sure I thanked him.
Besides the regular array of injections, we had one more. Spinal meningitis was rampant at Ft. Lewis that winter and there were a lot of inductees. It can kill very quickly--within 12-24 hours from the onset of symptoms. Every company was isolated--no PX or movies--to try to stop the spread (as well as some other strange things). So we had no direct knowledge of the frequency, but the rumors were that every morning a few soldiers woke up dead.
So one day when we were lined up for shots we were told, "You will be getting an experimental vaccination for spinal meningitis. It has not been approved by the FDA." A few weeks later, we were told "Good news. The spinal meningitis vaccine you were given has now been approved."

One of the guys flexed when getting the large bicillin shot in his buttocks and bent the needle. Had to go again.
