Bunk bed safety rails.

We have a new bunkhouse and we have two young daughters. Have any of you made and modifications such as rails to protect against the kids falling out of bed? Thanks.

We have used just regular bed rails from Babies R Us or even Walmart. They work just fine and keep the kids from falling.

Are they kinda like adjustable shower curtain rods or the kind that slide under the mattress? Thanks!

When we had our TT with bunks, I bought a nice wood curtain rod and wall anchors and installed at bunks...worked great.
I tried the adjustable bathroom curtain but found our kids would kick them away from the wall at night, the method above perm fixed them in place.

I built rails to keep my son (4) in and a ladder so he can get up there himself both are made of wood. Essentially I have a board that fits under the mattress that I have anchored the railing to. If my son is near the rail his weight pushes down on the board under the mattress making the railing more sturdy.

Good ideas. I want to do something more "permanent" so it will be made of wood. I like the ladder idea as well. Think ill make a wooden rail attached to the wall and the plywood under the mattress with an opening at the end to fit a wooden ladder so they can get up and down. I don't want to have to continually install/un-install every trip.
Thanks for heading me in the right direction!

I don't get to Tampa too often although I am headed to ft desoto next weekend with a buddy. Do you have pics of your upgrade?
Btw....off topic but since I am going to ft desoto and I'm assuming you've camped there, are they very strict on the "no alcohol" rules? Nothing like sitting around an evening campfire having a few "coldies" with friends.

I thought I had taken a few pics of the setup but it seems I have not. I am going to have to tow it to the repair shop this week so will try and remember to take some pictures.

Looks like you are in luck with the pics. My wife wanted to go check out the dent in the side of our TT so I had a chance to take the pictures.

The support is a 1x2 that runs under the bed and is nailed into the bottom of the bead.

I am sorry I cannot help you on that one as I have never done ft desoto by land. If they came by and told me I could not drink on my boat I would tell them to get packing... grin.

If I were going to camp on land there I would just put my drink in a small Coke or Pepsi bottle

Great pics, thanks. That's a lot like what I had in mind. Did you stain the wood?
I assume that if people were sloppy drunk they should do something but we aren't that kind of crowd. Just like kicking back relaxing with a few drinks. Sounds like a solo cup weekend. Lol

I made a rail out of PVC for the middle of the triple bunks in my 2306. I'll see if I have a chance to take some pics tonight and post them here.

It wasn't designed to be sturdy enough to hold someone in who wants to roll over it, but it has been strong enough to hold in my kids so far. I think the rail is more of a deterrent.
