cleaner
Last year somebody had a recipe for cleaning awnings that worked wonders. I believe it involved white vinegar and maybe liquid dish detergent. Ring a bell to anybody? thanx

Any dollar store..spray bottle of Awesome. Great cleaner for awnings and anything else.

To answer your question, I think you are referring to this recipe: 1/2 cup of bleach, 1/4 cup white vinegar, and 1/4 cup hot water in a spray bottle.
But, like Itsthetwoofus, I find that LA's Totally Awesome cleaner works great on the awning!

It really works well. The process I use is to dilute the concentrated Awesome, spray it on the underside (make sure to wear safety goggles and old clothes), climb on top of my camper and spray it on the topside of the awning, roll up awning and let it sit for 30 minutes. Unroll the awning and lightly scrub or wipe off with a mop and water. Rinse top and bottom of the awning with a hose when done cleaning. Let dry.

We have used the Awesome before.. but never have I thought of rolling up the awning! We went from a manual awning, that we could unhook the legs from the camper and lay them underneath the camper, in order to reach the upper part of the awning to get clean. But struggled with cleaning the new electric awning-- duh!  We will totally try this first time we clean the awning this season!

We do similar to Triguy, except with purple power. Usually only wait 15 minutes and the only thing I've ever had to scrub is the top if some sap got on it or something.

I have always used water...1/4 th part bleach and small amount of dish soap to help it stick to the awning....spray it on with a spray bottle...roll it up for about 30 minutes....unroll and rinse off. Works all the time.

After washing I have used dryer sheets. They actually do remove the bug remains without harming the finish.

Remember Grandma saying an ounce of prevention is worth a poud of cure?
Last year a friend of mine told me that when he goes on long trips he sprays slicone across the front of his car. It prevents the bugs from sticking so bad and then they wash off easily. I've tried it a couple of times and it does seem to work. You'll still have an occassional stubborn one. Just spray a light coat across the entire surface.

I don't know if silicone has a solvent properties, probably not. Being a pilot for thirty years, and aircraft wing leading edge catches every bug in its path. Many pilots have great success with Pledge furniture polish. Same concept, spray on, wipe off as if doing furniture. Slippery as can be. Many pilots thought it increased speed due to decreased parasitic drag. Debateable. But it did work well for bugs

I used Super Clean (Walmart) and brushed on both sides of the awning, rolled it up over night, and then used a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. I rinsed it and let it dry. This did the job for me.

7 water to 1 of the Awesome was what I used. Although, I had to spray 100% of the stuff on a really bad corner. I don't think you can go too badly wrong with more Awesome APC. Its non-toxic. There is a list of recommended dilutions on the bottle for various types of cleaning, too.

On bugs use a fabric softer sheet with a little water ... works great
