A cheaper approach is to just have a short pigtail that has a piece of cable attached to the plug and on the other end a solid part of the vehicle. Then just use a stout extension cord that will withstand the 'tug" when it's pulled apart. If you forget, it just pulls apart and the cord is left on the ground (assuming you wrapped the other end around something solid).
My hometown had a volunteer fire department that used a similar system only the "Plug" was on the tailboard. That was back in the day when up to four firemen rode the tailboard on the way to a fire. Every one was taught to make sure that their foot was not between the cord and "pull cable" or they'd be left face down on the floor of the equipment bay as the engine pulled out.
