I have the 38gal factory tank in my 08 F350 power stroke long bed and a additional 65gal tank in the bed. I would not go without it. Saved my bacon with the DW a few times earlier this month on our trip from Connecticut to Disney world.

Just checked this thread today - no I haven't checked mine since I don't do it. We have a 34 gallon tank in our Ram and that is plenty.

I just purchased a auxiliary fuel tank for my truck that has a 26 gallon factory tank. Since it is for gas I have to pump it to manually, but the company I purchased it from is working on a transfer system for it. I got it from ATI who has a special certificate that allows you to transfer gas legally, which most tanks do not. It was much cheaper than transfer flow. Their website is www.atitank.com. Worth a look if you are considering an auxiliary tank. Oh, and you can buy from the factory, but it is cheaper to buy from a reseller. If anyone wants to see pictures let me know. Oh, and it fits under my tonneau cover with the pump attached.

I carry a 5 gal can in the back of my TV for the generator and for those times when you are in the middle of nowhere and low on fuel. My toy hauler also has an 18 gal tank we use for our motorcycles and to top off the 5 gal can, when needed. I did use it once for the truck when the next gas station was 11 miles away and the low fuel light came on. The truck computer said we had 23 miles of fuel left. Needless to say, 6 miles down the road the truck ran out of gas. The gas can saved me that day and now I know that the low fuel light comes on way too late.

my low fuel light doesn't come on til it says I have 60 miles to empty. I don't trust it. I try not to let it go below a 1/4 tank. less sticker shock from 3/8 tank, but I have put 23 gallons into my tank before.

We have the Cummins 6.7L diesel and the manual says you never want to run out of diesel - I'll take their word for it.

Wow - you are carrying a total of 103 gallons full. At 6.5 pounds per gallon that is 770 pounds.

Yeah I know. but 6.5 Is easier to multiply than 7.29 and I wasn't sure he has a diesel or gas job.

I don't know about the 6.7 but the 5.9 is a beyotch to start after its been run dry. It makes no sense to run out with fuel gauges. I've always heard not to run lower than a 1/4 tank for the sake of cooling the fuel pump.

Most diesels are a real bear to start if they run out of fuel due to having to re-prime the injectors, pump etc.
