Front cap bugs, share your cleaning secret!

How do you get the bugs off the front cap? I use a cleaner wax but it takes lots of elbow grease. I think having more moisture would be beneficial. Would one of those wash / wax all products work better. I have to keep the trailer in a storage lot and water is not available, though I could take a couple of buckets from home.

I use wash/wax all. Their mini bug scrubber works great. Full kit at Amazon

Yup...this method works amazingly well...if you wax the cap of your trailer the softener sheets might strip the wax off though, but generally a waxed cap will clean up much easier than a non waxed cap, thereby perhaps making resorting to a softener sheet unnecessary.

thank you for your advice.

i try to keep a good coat of wax on the trailer. but even with that it still takes a lot of elbow grease on the front cap. you have to climb up the ladder and i'm not as agile as i used to be. even with a 12 foot ladder it is still impossible to reach all of the front cap. i'm thinking the wash wax all with the extendable mop is probably where i will be going.

there are a lot of bugs out there and they get baked on real good.

again thank you.

I am in a similar situation-no water at storage.

I Wax, nu-finish or rejex the front cap annually.

After each travel day I use an extendable brush/water at the campsite to get the days “catches” off. This way they they don’t have much of a chance to bond to the fiberglass. It takes less than 5 min so I don’t get busted for “washing the rv” at the campsite.

When I arrive at storage. I use a few bottles of water in a Bucket (or a Home Depot 5Gal bucket w/lid filled with water ) to get the last days worth cleaned off. Not perfect but no residual bugs to scrub off later.

I did the dryer sheet thing when it was lovebug season in Florida.

I made sure to leave them on for as short of a time as possible.

I don't own a ladder at the moment, so I reached what little I could from the ground, then backed the truck up and stood in the truck bed, and lastly climbed onto the roof and reached down. Not ideal, but I liked it better than being on a ladder!

I use Rejex. Bugs wipe off with just a damp rag.

I know what you mean. I’m no agile Eddie myself climbing up and down.

One thing I do to make it easier to reach is lower the front landing gear all the way down. This take about 2’ out of the reach to the top...

Mix water and trailer wash or Dawn in a 1/2 cup per gallon. Pump spray bottle. Spray it down good a couple of hours in advance and let it soak. Comes off easy with a light scrub.

How do you keep them from clogging the nozzle?

This stuff is awesome..... Best part, you don't waste your product from mostly running off on to the ground, like other products since this is foam! Click image for larger version

Thinking of trying dryer sheets on a Swifter mop. Made two unscheduled ladder exits this year and DW had banned me from them now.

I use this, it's safe for the decals and doesn't take the wax off.
