GREAT picnic table lights

Ever seen "redneck wine glasses"?

It's a Mason jar glued to a glass (cheap) candlestick.

Well I found, on eBay, Mason jar lids with a solar light embedded in them.

I figured out how they did it and made some of my own.

The solar light reflects off all the embossing on the jars and looks like thousands of diamond patterns on the top of the table.

NEAT!

I made three of them...two shorter candlesticks and one taller one.

Also made my own awning lights (not the led strips..the kind you clip to the edge of the awning).

Ordered recycled shotgun shells in four colors; red, blue, green and yellow.

They come re crimped so I took a 60 bulb LED strand of Christmas lights and pushed each bulb down into the corresponding colored shell. The crimp holds the bulb in place, no falling out.

VOILA!

Oh, I also made some without the candlestick. Just a grouping of three different sized Mason jars with solar lights in the lid.

Those could be used as night lights in the kids' bunkhouse, a neat bug jar, etc. (when I make them there's slight air spaces between the hot melt glue in the lid so bugs would live).

Sounds great, but I want to see great. LOL

I promise not to come over to your house and steal them.

On a side note, there are several of us going camping at Jimmie Davis next weekend, if ya want to stop by and/or join us.

Sheesh! ...ok, ok, ok....I'll go set 'em up for some pics. Gonna be tough getting a picture of them lit up, as it has to be in the dark.

I'll take a picture of the components, and the finished product.

BRB!

(off work today....yeeeeehaw!)

Make sure you use the *high heat* glue in the glue gun, since the high temps these will be exposed to in the sun on your picnic table will melt the glue and the solar panel will drop into the jar.

You can see the very inexpensive solar light stem, and the little panel that screws off.

You take the insert out of the jar lid and just place the solar panel into the ring after running a thin line of glue around the inside edge of the jar lid ring. VOILA!

Wait until the glue hardens then screw the lid onto what ever jar tickles your fancy.

(make sure the glue line is thin or the lid won't screw on)

With the ones on stems I just used cheap glass candle sticks and glued them to the bottom of the jars...again, use *high heat* glue.

The dark photo is the blue Mason jars lit up.

OOPS, didn't post the one of them lit up...

The writing on the jars gets reflected (refracted) by the light and creates really pretty patterns on the table top.

When you buy the solar lights, take a jar lid ring with you to make sure it's the right size solar light. Some are *really * tiny..won't work...some are too large...again...won't work.

I got the solar lights at WalMart. I think they're something like $2.00 each.

Pretty nifty. This situation reminds me of one of those Direct TV commercials.

1. When you have a neat idea, you want to share it online with others.

2. When others see your idea, but are too lazy to make one of their own, they decide to come to your house and take one of yours instead.

3. When others come to your house to take things, you get a gun.

4. When you get a gun, you wind up shooting your friends.

5. When you shoot your friends, you end up going to their funeral.

Don't end up at a friends funeral...................give wmtire one of these lights today.
