Can't see the benefit to go to an inline filter that only filters city water and not my FW tank.
I put my blue bullet on the end of my hose to fill my FW tank and/or jugs too.

Give it a few years. Climate change may make winterizing necessary. How many "Cold Records" were recently broken in the South?

Go to HD or Lowes and purchase a new unit to replace the existing set up....Filters are much cheaper so you can throw it away in the fall

High priced!

Removed mine completely and just connected the PEX lines. I'm not paying 35 bucks for a filter cartridge when I can get 3 inline hose throwaway filters for the same price. Don't know why FR decided to use the most expensive replacement filter cartridges on the market when they could have went with an Omnifilter that you can get 2 replacement carbon filters for 10 bucks.

Because when you buy one of those $35 cartridges, that are the only cartridge that fits the housing, Forest River received a cut of that $35 to install the housing to begin with. Just like the cut they receive from Furrion for installing a $2 housing that only accepts Furrion's overpriced cameras.

They're not installing those type of things because they want to be your friend. RVs are a by product of the main business which is making money.

That's the recommended way to store filters between uses. I'm guessing most people who RV go out on a trip, then don't use it for one or two months before they use it again. They are far from the end their useful life after a few recreational uses throughout the season. But you just gave me an idea for a poll!

Mike we do have a freeze every 2 or 3 years for a few hours ... never more than 2-4 hours .... avg temp over last 100 years 2- 3 degrees up or down that is highs and lows ... we are 1 1/2 hours south of Tampa and really we are considered humid sub tropical .... given Gulf and Atlantic it is hard to get calm radiant cooling to produce real cold temps and dew points below 40 are rare ... I have seen 28 a few times but never more than 4 hours ... I agree the climate is always changing so we will stand ready ... I would love to get some cold weather down here, last 4-5 years I have turned on furnace (elec) once a year just to burn dust off the elements my small forced air Dyson is all we need ... if we did freeze I would just run the fireplace electric heat to be safe in the camper .... I am jealous that yall get to deal with real cold air

We use a 2 filter system I attach at the source after the pressure regulator. The first is a 1 micron sediment filter, the second a 1/2 micron block carbon filter. The cost of the pair is about 30 bucks. They get thrown away at the end of the season. We first used the blue filters but they allow too much iron and silt through. Those blue filters are 10 microns. In the filter world that is a hole big enough to drive a truck through. I got the housing and filters at the RV Filter Store.

That would be nice. They are 20 micron. Big enough to drive TWO trucks through, lol.

It's the same thing. The fact that it had the word "warming" in it confused too many people that think weather = climate, so they changed it to "climate change".

I prepare mine for storage by extracting water by using a Shop Vac, then the filter is dried and sterilized by placing it in a box with an unfiltered incandescent Ultra Violet light. The filter is then vacuum packed with a food saver for storage.
Way, way too much trouble for me. I can buy a pair of 10 micron taste odor and sediment filters for about $6. Enough for the whole season

[QUOTE=Tundra 2014;2224169.... I will need to paint the housing black to prevent algae growth from the clear housing....[/QUOTE]

For about $15 you can buy a new whole house filter with a non-transparent housing at most big box stores. Adding a couple of fittings to connect to hoses has the entire replacement at probably under $20.
FWIW, I have 2 connected in series - first a string grit filer and then a good carbon block... I hang the entire setup on my bumper.

I have used the built-in water filter on a number of trailers. The filters filter many minerals and particles during a camping season, and is therefore not worth reusing the following season. When I winterize my trailer I remove my filter element and discard it. The following year I insert a new element and use it for the entire camping season.

Hose filters not the best

Putting hose filters on the city water connection will not filter water from your tank. Filtering water going into the tank is better than the raw hose but plastic tastes from the tank will still pass through. The best place is where the old FR filter was - downstream from the water pump and city water.

I still use my original filter but would like to find a lower cost option that will fit in the same space (downstream from the pump) Having a filter with the inlet and outlet on the same end would make replumbing easier but with everything being plastic these days probably any configuration could be made to work.

I suppose I could have let it dry out and not stored it in a baggie. Any good tips or tricks here?
Throw it away and start fresh next season!
