How to DeWinterize a New RV

Last week we went to Ohio and picked up or new Jayco 29RKS and of course it is winterized. Can someone tell us are the steps to dewinterize it and what we need to do now get it ready for traveling?

THanks

By winterized, I assume they used antifreeze.

Here's what I do.

1. Empty any antifreeze in your FW tank.
2. Remove water heater drain plug to ensure it's empty as well. Re install drain plug
3. Fill and empty your FW tank to rinse it out.
4. Fill your FW tank with a solution of 1/4 cup beach to 15 gallons of water.
5. Make sure your water heater valves are in the bypass position.
6. Turn on your water pump.
7. One by one, turn on each faucet until you no longer see pink then turn it off.
8. Put your water heaters valves back into the normal operating position.
9. Turn on any hot water valve to allow water / bleach solution to fill the water heater. Turn off one filled.
10. Top off your FW tank with water. Allow bleach solution to remain in your water lines for several hours at least. Over night is preferable.
11. Once soaking is complete, drain your FW tank, fill and drain again to rinse. Fill it once more.
12. Open water heater drain plug until water heater is empty. Reinstall plug.
13. Turn on water pump.
14. One by one, turn on each faucet and let run until you no longer smell bleach.
15. Fill and drain your hot water heater a couple of times to rinse.

Youll also want to de winterize and sanitize your city water connection plus your drinking water hose.

Don't forget to drain the low point drains of the pink stuff.

What I would do is turn on your water pump while the bleach solution is in your tank but only briefly so you dont have too much pressure in the lines. Then go outside to your city water inlet and open it up.There should be a small screen just inside that you can remove easily. Behind this screen, there is a check valve button. If you push the button, it will allow water from inside to flow backout through the city water connection. Just like your faucets, let water flow until you see no pink and smell bleach. Stand to the side when you do this because you will get wet if you don't.

You can probably get a little more specific information about your RV if you go to a Jayco forum. Everyone is welcome on this forum but 95% of the users are Forest River product users. Winterizing and dewinterizing is genetric to just about all RV's but WH locations and valve placements can be different to each brand.

There are also plenty of you tube videos on the subject.

And shame on your dealer for not showing you this basic R/V 101 process during a brand new purchase!

I was under the impression that a brand new trailer never had water in it so there is no antifreeze to drain the first time. Ours was delivered in November so I'll look for tell tale pink stains around the drains.

If a dealer has properly checked over a new RV they would have hooked up to a city water source to check for any possible leaks and then winterized the RV after checking it out. Your dealer should have explained that to you when you took delivery.

My beef is that the three different valves aren't labeled, nor did I know which direction was on/off. I wasn't instructed on them at my PDI and didn't find a diagram in my literature.

It's easy. If the valve handle runs parallel to the pipe, it's open. Perpendicular is closed.
