Angry Left Behind At The Campsite!

The end of a perfect week of camping was met with a sick feeling in my stomach when I dicovered as I put things away after arriving home that I did not have my favorite 40 year old fireplace turned campfire poker. I could see it in my mind laying on the shelf of the campsite BBQ grill where I placed it the night before leaving to head home - a dull black wrought iron beauty that matched that dadgum black BBQ. I should have known better. I hope whoever found it will enjoy it as I had for so long.
I'm wondering if i'm the only one this has happened to? I was so careful before leaving. I walked around the TT 4 times and the wife at least that many times before pulling out. I keep telling myself I will get over this once I find just the right replacement.

I have left two fire pokers over the past years. I kicked myself each time I did it. You are not alone. Go to yard sales and flea markets and pick up another one cheap.

X2 on calling campground. Many facilities clean the fire rings between guests. If they find things they usually log it into Lost and Found.

We use tongs. http://a.co/bi5lPmt

I normally find a stake(tent or tiedown) and free firewood someone was nice enough to leave behind.

I once left a nice water pressure regulator, with pressure meter, at a KOA in WA. Called them that evening and they said they would check. Long story short, the next year we were back at the same KOA and they still had it!
Now I have two.

I have left things behind and have gotten them back when I returned. When I dry camp I often find firewood left behind, and I always leave firewood when I depart. Its a nice way to start a camping trip with firewood already at the ring.

In addition to contacting the camp ground why don't you post the name of it here just in case another forum member is there and can recover it for you.

Lol, I am a forest service camp host and you would be amazed at the good stuff left behind. Over Memorial Day weekend someone left an ice chest w/wheels and handle.

I do a lot of dispersed camping and sometimes find stuff. It's hard to "return" this stuff to the original owner when you have no idea how long it's been there. Having said that, I've also forgotten and left stuff behind.

Usually, as a last thing before departure, I do a walkaround of my vehicle and campsite, looking for any bits of trash, or stuff left behind, and to double-check the fire to make dead sure it is out. I don't want to be "that guy". I look at all the trees and other stuff, and do a full perimeter walk. It only takes a couple of minutes.

I started doing this when I left behind a very old folding shovel. I loved that shovel. I hope it brings the new owner as much joy as it brought me.

We searched for our fire poker for about 30 minutes on one trip, and concluded that we must have left it the last time we camped. Oh well, just went and got a new one. It was really strange when I found the lost one... Exactly where it was supposed to be... Exactly where two of us searched multiple times each... So maybe, just maybe, the poker God's will replace yours the next time you look?

Two years ago I left a bike lock cable lying in the grass when we left Goshen. I had owned and used it since the early 1970's. I left a small ratchet, 1/2" socket, 1/2" combo wrench (sat. dish antenna adjustment tools) at Lake Murray in Oklahoma. I left a water "Y" on a faucet somewhere. My B-I-L left his DW's tricycle in a campsite. Onlookers chased them down! Oh, me..........

We have always done this too.
Unfortunately, I have noticed lately, many campgrounds go around gathering up leftover firewood after someone pulls out so they can resell it again.

One wheel chock at Blue Springs Sate Park in Orange City, FL. About 4 weeks ago.
Many more items to forget in the future I'm sure.

Remember replacing lost and forgotten items is a vital part of our economy. The country should thank us for doing our part. LOL

A while back we ran out of firewood and scoured the woods for scraps. One of our neighbors left and left a wheelbarrow load of firewood. I was like hey..should I go get some of that to DW?(remembering the discussions here) and about that time there was thunder and lightning and the rednecks(loud people in a group with non-stop music) blazed over there and got it all. Thanks rednecks.
